State of LA has OL deficit, thus OL recruiting is most important
LA high schools put out very few excellent OL, only one 4star total in '19 + '20.

Sometimes a 3star becomes excellent, see LSU '19 especially Cushenberry, but I would rather start with 4star and 5star kids because they are more likely to become excellent.

Even our fabulous G.O.A.T. '19 team with the Joe Moore Award winning OL didn't have the power to blow people off the LOS on 3rd and 2, we had to throw, whatever. And in '18 most of the same guys couldn't protect the QB.

LA will always produce excellent DBs, WRs, RBs especially, and enough other positions too, just not enough OL.

Thus no matter who or what we got, my attention is always most on OL recruiting. We know we gonna get all the others we need.

(and yes, always need QBs)

Biggest issue with OL recruiting is the total crapshoot it usually is. It's the toughest to predict IMO short of mayb e QBs from high school to college. So hard to see who is just physically dominant because they are bigger than everyone else vs. who has proper technique and has actual strength.

this is why getting OL was so important last year. Losing SVP was tough.

Got to hope we land 5 good ones this year.

I agree that it was tough but it wasn’t for a lack of effort. Some kids are just dead set on leaving the state no matter what. Sucks that he left but I’ll give SVP credit for being upfront and not leading the staff on.

Send whoever is responsible for recruiting OL to live in Wisconsin. There seems to be no shortage of road graters there.

It’s all on the genes. Big Nordic basterds are everywhere in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Not so much on da bayou!

You can definitely see technique in high school but generally there are very few guys who are Physically ready to be high level OL in high school.

So you gotta project how much weight they’ll put on, how they’ll grow and how they’ll move on top of how well they can pick up technique

Ryan Ramczyk was like 250 coming out of high school

Absurd comments for the sake of argument. Of course we had a fantastic QB, but a behavior can have more than one determinant. We had trouble pounding the ball straight ahead so we used our great QB and receiving corps. It would have been better to have a choice of which to use. But to be able to pound we need more big uglies which aren't abundant on the bayou.

Look at this year’s NFL draft and get back with me on that Wisconsin “Big Nordic...” genes BS. In the first two rounds nine o-linemen were drafted, 7 in the 1st. None from Wisconsin and only one who could possibly be considered “Nordic”. The states represented? Georgia, Kentucky, Iowa, Virginia, Arizona, Florida, New York, Texas and Washington. Wisconsin or “Up North” being this assembly line of great o-linemen is a myth. A farm legend. Although the image of the “Big Nordic basterds (sic)” is very appealing to some, the reality is a different scenario.

Georgia, Florida and Texas produce a slew of great o-linemen each year. Just look at the top o-line recruits this year on 247 composite. Of the top 50 tackles this year, Texas has 8, with 2 in the top 6. Wisconsin? One at number 22. Texas has 9 of the top 50 guards with 3 of the top 10. Wisconsin has none of the top 50 guards. Centers? Texas has 3 of the top 20, including the top rated and two of the top 10. Wisconsin? Zero. So the o-linemen factory everyone seem to love so much has one linemen in the top 50 tackles, top 50 guards and top 20 centers. One in the top 120. Let’s dispel that myth post haste! The reality is LSU can get all of the high quality o-linemen it needs “down south” in Texas, Georgia and Florida and the occasional ones in Louisiana like the best center in the nation last year. And “Nordic” is not a consideration in determining high quality linemen.
