Signing late qualifiers

I was just reading about how we might sign Lorando Johnson and CamRon as late qualifiers. Why should we be limited to those two. I would imagine there are quite a few late qualifiers around the country. Could another player emerge as a late qualifier?

They’ve been evaluated and their commitment was accepted pending academics would be my guess

It’s entirely possible. These new rules have only been around for a few years and I imagine a program will take advantage of this, much like Kansas State utilized junior college transfers before most places.
However the types of schools that usually take advantage of these loopholes and rule changes are often less prestigious programs run by smart coaches. Again Bill Snyder at KSU is a perfect example.

Ty Crawford is another one in the same position with us.

How would a late qualifier be a loophole???

It’s an unorthodox way of responding to a rule change. The penalty of signing non-qualifiers has gone up significantly with the new rules were you can’t just drop an unqualified player from your list. Before that, schools would sign 29 or 30 kids. One year Ole Miss had 36 or something crazy.
So the top schools now just don’t sign anyone if they are a grade risk. They generally fill out their class and call it day on NSD in early February.
A team that isn’t a top tier school like LSU can probably make a big improvement by waiting to sign their full class and take a chance on top kids who aren’t qualifiers.
While LSU risks losing a top 300 guy by waiting for a higher ranked late qualifier, a school like Kansas State might risk losing a top 1000 guy. So they have more incentive to wait.
I’m not seeing anyone do this yet but the rules are very new. Wait a couple of years, and I bet you’ll start seeing it.
