LSU

quote:

The Tigers have moved up as much as any program of late and some of the big names its battling Alabama for may end up similarly to Sage Ryan’s recruitment, where LSU beat out ‘Bama head to head. Defensive Tackle Maason Smith and wideout Brian Thomas are the top two uncommitted prospects in Louisiana and it may be a slight upset if each didn’t land in Baton Rouge for good. The Tigers are still after No. 1 IDL prospect Korey Foreman, of California and No. 2 running back Camar Wheaton in addition to several intriguing offensive lineman like No. 1 interior prospect Bryce Foster, Tristan Leigh and Savion Byrd. Any out-of-state win the rest of the way, even over Florida for former Gator pledge Bryce Langston, would be considered huge for Ed Orgeron’s first class as a national champion coach.

Thank you, great work (as always)! Hope to see Leigh, M. Smith, and Foreman in purple and gold! Was optimistic that Langston would end up in the class, but with visits not allowed it just doesn’t seem as though he’s a possibility.

I think you're 100% spot on with Langston. Not being able to visit makes it easier to stay home. He will be a good for for the Gators.

I'd love every name mentioned on this list. Too bad we can't sign 30.

Me too. By far, my biggest gripe about Orgeron is his inability to hang onto spots for the future. He's like a guy who goes to the casino with $200 and is determined to spend every penny before he leaves.

Not to go all psychologist here, but he seems very id in that regard.

22 scholly players should be recruited every year. 1-3 replenishing depth/project players are acceptable. But also if no one really really deserves/fits in the class keep 1-2 spots for the next year or a stud Juco/Transfer. There will come a year where having 2 extra spots lands you an extra 5 or 4 star because of it or allows you keep another talented guy instate and keep up the good energy for the wall.

Youre pretty spot on. It shows that everyone wants to go to LSU. It's a tricky situation you deal with because on one side, you dont want to have empty spots to fill by waiting out and the other side you dont want to fill spots too quickly.

Coach O really has to balance his focus on getting the big time players in other states as well as not letting other programs start poaching players in our backyard where those players start recruiting future better talent to go to that school. Getting a lower star player on a team doesnt always mean you want him as much as you want that player to recruit better upcoming players from their alma mater.

I dont get this...

He signed 23 on signing day in 2017 and gave a 24th scholly to Jefferson then took in Moss and Fehoko as transfers,

Signed 22 in 2018 and took in Burrow and Tracy as grad transfers

25 in 2019 was his only full recruiting class

Signed 22 in 2020 and still had the 4th ranked class. Then went an got Liam at C and Cox at LB. The late play for Evans looks poor but what are you really upset about? He averages 23 players per class in 4 years and has taken some amazing transfers that have contributed.

Don't forget about Giles in 2017. That one didn't look bad on paper, though.

In 2018, if things had worked out on signing day, Orgeron would have used the last two spots on James Foster and Mario Goodrich, so there wouldn't even have been room for Burrow and Tracy.

In 2019, Soni Fonau was a January offer and Orgeron gave the last spot to Desmond Little on signing day, who was on nobody's radar.

Other than Cox, I didn't feel like the other transfers this year were necessary.

Obviously there are going to be hits and misses, but there's a track record of using every last spot, even if on marginal guys. I'm not even saying they shouldn't take chances on late guys, but they don't have to use every last spot every year.

We land 7 out of 8! Let’s ride.

In all actuality I want atleast 4 of the 8.

I wasn't really intending to go down the list, because in hindsight, it's pretty easy to say you didn't want them to take certain guys. I was mainly just trying to point out that every year, they seem determined to fill every spot. I think anyone can look at the last 4 recruiting classes (including transfers) and see we probably took some guys we shouldn't have or didn't need. Even just not taking 1 of those guys would be 1 extra guy we could take this year.

One benefit of having extra space, is you don't have to be so selective at the end of a cycle. I believe having to be selective is what's caused us to lose, or miss out, on a few guys in past years. I mean, if we hasn't taken Feheko, Moss, AND Giles, we could have taken Goodrich in 2018, and not been SOL when Surtain left us at the alter.

If we hadn't taken Fonua or Little, we would have had room for Major Burns last year, and hopefully they wouldn't have felt compelled to take Evans this year.

Anyway, I think the staff does a tremendous job in recruiting, but the tendency to fill all of the spots every cycle is their main flaw, IMO.
