40% 3pt the past 2 seasons.

A knockdown shooter and solid defender.

Yep. He only has to beat out about 300 other schools for him.

That’s referring to his 3pt % which is above average.

More like 30-40 teams at most, if you think we are competing with Presbyterian for transfers I don’t know to tell you lol.

I don't believe LSU really needs a 2 Guard.

There’s a very good chance we have very little outside shooting next season

He’s 6’9. He’s a combo forward who should be playing the 4 like Watford.

What we really need is a combo guard/point guard, and preferably one who can shoot.

We have lots of wings. Hyatt, Wilkinson, Knight, Fudge and Murray are all wings. That's a lot of guys. You would hope that at least a couple of them give you some three-point shooting.

There are a couple of kids we ought to be talking to. Marcus Carr at Minnesota and Myreon Jones at Penn State are both 6-2 or 6-3 combo guards capable of being a lead guard like Smart has been for us, and they've had to carry the load on bad teams. On a better team like we should have one of those guys could blossom into a star.

Xavier Johnson at Pittsburgh is another potential guy.

Then there's Sam Griffin at Texas-Arlington who's not a big name, but he's a 40 percent three-point shooter and a decent scorer in the Sun Belt. Very underrated player.

SMU has a point guard name Demarcus McNeil who's in the portal and he's an interesting guy. Supposedly a great defender and a high-percentage three point bomber.

I don't think you want a pure 3-and-D guy. That's really what you took Knight for, and it's what you hope Hyatt develops into. What you really need with the scholarship you're going to spend on a guard is a playmaker. I don't know enough about Locke to say that's what he is - Tre Mann was really the playmaker for Florida more than Locke has been.

Excellent synopsis. I think any of those guards would be great

If Wade can reign in Gaines on offense I think he has the traits to be a BIG TIME playmaker at PG. We saw flashes last year of tremendous court vision and playmaking ability. Unfortunately, he was often undisciplined on offense. But I do agree that LSU looks like they will desperately need a shooter on next year's team. Moreso if Days truly does not return.

Right now next years LSU team could look more like Houston in terms of roster vs. the last two LSU teams. Houston doesn't shoot it at a particularly high %, but they have one knock down shooter (Grimes) and a ton of long athletic players that constantly attack with tremendous effort.

LSU should have a lot of length and athleticism next year. But they will probably have to play a little different style than they have the past two seasons. It is imperative they get much better defensively as they likely won't have the offensive skill to make up for poor play on that side of the ball. However, they SHOULD have enough length and athleticism to do just that. Gaines, Leblanc, Cook, Wilkinson and Hyatt all showed signs of being able to defend well last season. Knight, Fudge and Colbert have really good length. There's ZERO excuse for this team not to be much improved on that side of the ball. It's ONLY a matter of if Wade is willing to put much more emphasis in doing so than he has in the past

We definitely aren't going to be a team that builds its offense around 1 on 1 iso ball.

When you have Watford, Thomas and Smart all on the same team you're going to do that. All three of those guys are NBA-level scorers who can create their own shot, so you let them go to work - they'll make more offense on their own than you can generate using some sort of system.

But with the team next year, you'll need a system.

Gaines or Cook have got to become floor generals and playmakers. If not, then you need to find somebody like that in the transfer portal (the kids I mentioned above would all fit the bill). But the biggest key to next year's team that nobody is considering is whether Shareef can stay healthy and break out as a big-time player.

If he can do that and give you a 15 ppg scorer at the "4," you might actually end up with a better team than you had this year. You'll definitely be deeper and you should absolutely be better on defense.

We're overloaded on wings right now. Focus is another guard and maybe a another big.

That is probably a lot to ask and expect from a guy who really hasn't done it. Wade compared him to Aaron Epps before the season started. That is a guy with good height. Some ability to shoot from outside. But ultimately not a particularly physical guy inside. That kind of showed up a bit in the limited action he saw this season. He wasn't uncomfortable when he had to step out to guard someone on the perimeter. But he wasn't really a force inside. IF he can stay healthy and give you say 8ppg and 5rpg while playing solid defense I think Wade would be happy.

Assuming Days is gone LSU (in addition to shooting) is probably going to need a bit of toughness inside. Can Gray be that guy? He looks the part from a physical standpoint. Can he become a better player is the question?

By wing, I mean a college wing. I don’t mean 6’7 guy who can’t create his own shot. I mean that 6’3-6’6 guard who can score and handle the ball. Knight and Murray are the only two guys on the team that fit that mold and neither of them are guys that they should be comfortable being relied on.
