Spieg's first report on Dandy Don's while he coverers The Opening

That leads me to some interesting news on the DandyDon front. As many of you have heard, the Cox Media Group is shutting down its SEC Country website. That means several talented LSU writers are without a steady job. Among those is Sam Spiegelman, one of the hardest-working “recruitniks” in the business. Well, I’m happy to announce that while Sam is in between jobs, he’ll do a few freelance assignments for DandyDon

I'm still waiting for an insider story on Ratphuc Hobley.

Forgot to mention a couple of items I found interesting from Sam's article.
1) "Noah" Cain’s father was rocking LSU gear this week in Frisco, though.
2) Kentwood’s (La.) Trey Palmer and Amite’s (La.) Devonta Lee sit atop of LSU’s wide receiver board, but Curry is right behind them. Both of the in-state receivers aim to commit in February, which could force the Tigers to push for Curry early. The team plans on taking two receivers in the 2019 cycle.
This may be a direct response going forward to the early signing period. Does a team get very good players locked in and signed in December or do they wait for players, who may or not even be as good, until February?
The wait approach could lead to teams getting burned on signing day, missing out, and then having to take even lesser players as a result. Some players may be about to find out if teams view them as being as good as they view themselves.

Either sht or get off the pot is the approach I'd like to see. No more getting dragged along for the recruit to leave last minute literally. If we have studs wanting to pull the trigger, you take them. The more schools do this, the less drama we'll all have in Feb.

It's intriguing, but my gut tells me that after getting burned last year LSU is going to pull he trigger in the early period to make sure that they fill their needs, even if it means potentially missing out on some talented recruits in February. They'll hold a few spots, but I don't think they are going to stake the future of the team on the whims of a few teenagers who want to string this out until February.

exactly..... don't risk being put in a bad situation regarding depth to hold a spot for one player anymore like Surtain. Hind sight is 20/20 so I am not bashing just sayin' learn from that mistake and don't repeat it.

It’s interesting that Thomas has not spoken much about Sopsher. Or Has he, and I have just missed it.

Or it could result in a local DB transfer from Stanford and a much needed much hyped QB transfer from tOSU.

well good, that site could use a journalist
look I kind of got why people paid attention to the site back in the day because DD was one of the first sites....why anyone gives a damn about what his son has to say, well I'll never know.

Kind of harsh, huh? It was just a hobby site for Don and when he died, his son just kept it going. If you don't like it, just don't read it. There's rarely anything on there that hasn't been here first, but for people who don't hang out on the rant it's a decent place to get a daily compilation of LSU news.

You obviously don't read his reports. He does provide some unique recruiting insight. He also interviews people in the know. I love his interviews of Mike Detillier. Bashing someone who provides a good service for FREE, shows your lack of intelligence!!!

He just tweeted an interesting tidbit on Nathan Pickering.

Told y'all we were expecting him to commit... Caught the whole staff off guard.

Makes you wonder if he is still in play.

I have my reservations on him now, but we have never lost contact or stopped pursuing. If we can get him back on campus with his family, we may can make something happen.

I think he actually did commit according to his comments at the opening, but it was short lived with no mom or dad on the LSU visit with him......
"I actually was probably committed to them before Mississippi State," Pickering said on Tuesday. "But I felt like honestly, if I went there with my parents, things might have been different, but I was with my parents at Mississippi State and they were happy, I was happy and it just felt like home at the time because I've been there for so long.
"January when I went up there with Dannis Jackson from Summeral, we said this was the vibe and I told the coach I want to be an LSU Tiger."
