Has anybody else noticed that in video of Rickie Collins throwing the ball, he taps the ball with his left hand right before he throws it?

I'm not QB coach, but this seems to be a "Tell" or "Cue" to defensive players that he is about to release the ball. If nothing else it gives defensive lineman a fraction of a second to get their hands up to bat down passes.

Is this a thing?

Is it easy to correct?

Yes that’s why IMO he’s not a 5 star. He has literally everything else. The full game against Catholic High is on YouTube and he single handedly beat the best team in the state pretty much. But his throwing motion mechanics will get him in trouble at the next level. He has to find a way to quicken it up.

Damn good velocity and he’s deadly accurate but he has to try to fix his throwing motion. If it wasn’t for that I think he would be a top 5 QB in this class.

Sloan/Kelly/Denbrock will have a few years to work with him…..

That doesn’t bother me too much, if anybody saw the Catholic BR vs Woodlawn game last year then they know why and how is LSU caliber. He has other intangibles that cannot be taught

Nah. The rb for Woodlawn had 160 yards rushing that game too.

Elite 11 Pro Day: Rickie Collins

Top performers from Day 2 of 2022 Elite 11 Finals: Rickie Collins claims top spot

BEST OVERALL

Woodlawn (La.) QB Rickie Collins, a Purdue commit, was the only quarterback to record 20 plus throws on the night. His consistency stood out above the rest, which earned him our night two overall top performer honor.

And Drew Brees is too short. Let the coaches do their job.

I noticed it too. The downvotes will come

I think it can fixed, he projects to start as RS Junior if the QB plays out so plenty of time.

Super talented guy.

The hitch thing for any qb is overrated. Let your body naturally perform and be an athlete.

Sure would be nice to have a guy so talented but know he would have 3 seasons to work before he competes to start. O did leave us in a pretty good QB situation

Watching his interview and his love for Purdue, LSU and Kelly must have really made an impression on him!

Why do we do this? We all clamor to get a kid either headed to us or committed to us, then immediately are hyper critical.

Are there parts of his game he’s going to work on? Yes. Does every QB, college or pro, have things they need to work on as well? Also yes.

Kid is uber talented so get him onboard and trust the process.

CBK and Denbrock have churned out some pretty solid college QBs that went on to play in the league (which in and of itself is an accomplishment, regardless of success) - Jimmy Clausen, Brady Quinn, Des Ridder, etc..

So if he does it on a pump fake, he’d get a lot of defenders out of position, right?

Don’t think this a big deal and also seems very fixable

You're getting downvoted for this but it's not really that far off. It's not really meant to be a huge negative for rickie. He's good. He has all the tools and could probably be a higher rated 4* based on potential alone. I definitely can see what you're saying there. I liked Moore a lot but Collins is not a bad fallback option if we get him, imo.

I actually think Collins is a little underrated on the recruiting sites.

Yes. That’s just a bad habit they are letting go right now because it is working, it’s fixable

So did Drew Brees. What's your point?

He asked a simple question about a recruits throwing mechanics. He didn't throw shade at him or say anything negative.

Why do we do this? We all act like any LSU commit can't be discussed for the bad as well as the good or we are considered "hyper critical". All recruits have pluses and minuses. It's not being hyper critical just analyzing/comparing which is exactly what the coaches do.

Agree with everything you said.

I've been very high on collins and couldn't understand why lsu wasn't recruiting him harder. Well, they were.

Supposedly they have been on him this entire time. When i watched him throw i saw a very good qb with everything you'd want.

Look at those 3 or 4 throws toward the end of that elite 11 pro day.

That hitch in his throw might get him in trouble sometimes but he is an extremely nice pickup for lsu.
