What if Surtain flames out, never really develops like expected ( see Tony Brown) or has issues. there are no guarantees.

Anything is possible, but arguing against an evaluation system that has time and time again proven to be an accurate determination of talent and potential isn't logically sound and isn't how a program should be run.

Considering his dad is a former NFL all pro guy I'm sure he's got a pretty good mentor there.

His chances of being a flop are extremely low. Even if he doesn't play a down in the NFL it's very likely that at minimum he could have provided depth at a position of need. We don't need every player to be a future NFL star to have success. There are plenty of top tier collegiate players that don't play in the NFL.

Don’t cut Jackson short, dude was damn good.

This, dude almost beat LSU by himself. Yea he was a cancer but he could ball. When u r DBU it hurts to lose a #1 CB to the gumps.

Close, but not quite. Drafted as 1st pick of 2nd round.

You forgot he is now in prison for murdering his stepfather while loaded on spice. If you are going to tell the story at least tell everyone the ending for him.

Weird example. Ed O screwed LSU with Jackson and lost Surtain to Alabama.

Just because Jackson turned out to be a wacko, doesn't change the fact that Ed O damaged LSU twice (once intentionally and once unintentionally).

It’s not losing a player, is who we have to replace Ben in the class.

In this case we have no one. And CB is a position of need.

I remember this very well. Orgeron was the mastermind behind that debacle. He apparently has lost his touch.

So I'm assuming you've been to the future then? What's it like there??? Do we still have beef jerky?

Oh and....STFU. How the frick would you know which player would end up being better than the other? Is it your extensive experience in scouting or talent evaluation that leads you to be able to compare two different players one of which hasn't even played a down in college yet? Please do tell what insights your future brain might hold for us. Absolutely cannot wait to hear them. If not then please never again try to tell me what a player will end up being before he's ever been in a game in major college football...k sweetheart? Thanks guy.

Yeah, and I remember Kristian Fulton, too. He was a five star and hasn’t done shite. But I also remember Cam Robinson, who we lost, and he was a 4 year starter for Bama during a time when we were struggling on the o-line.

Patrick Surtain is not a bad kid and is definitely not like Janzen Jackson

We don't know that yet, really. Bama's definitely better at keeping headcases straight while they're there than Tennessee is, so he's got that going for him.

Rankings don’t account for the potential to commit felonies.
