I know there's not much reality in this way of thinking but I'd love to hear a recruit be a bad enough dude to choose his school saying "come with me, championships follow me" instead of choosing to play for the latest champion saying "I'm following you to championships."
Sure it's just "in the movies" sounding stuff but that's my thoughts on yesterday and missing out on Surtain.

At Alabama he will get:
-Top notch positional coaching
-Top notch head coaching
-Top notch conditioning
-The chance to play alongside other top-tier talent
-The chance to play for national championships

All of those will benefit him in his goal to make it to the NFL. It's really not hard to see why he chose Bama.

not to mention there is a high probability the current LSU staff is gone in 1-2 years.

LINK
Per that ESPN list, LSU has 56 and Bama has 50. The difference in six players over that many years is insignificant. Going to LSU would not have given him a better chance of making it to the NFL.

That’s what Saban tells them all. Follow me, and you’ll win championships. Can’t blame a kid for wanting to win championships.

How about number of recent NFL draftees? What's the trend?

Are you a witness to that or is your head so far in the sand you haven't noticed?

And just as important, exposure.

Surtain's going to be in the NFL in 3 years, barring injury. Doesn't matter who he plays for.

You are right and I understand that side of it.
I've never been recruited for anything and never will be, certainly not as an 18 year old kid hoping to go to the NFL, but my simple mind says I've been an LSU fan all my life and I guess I'd be going there hoping to bring championships back to MY school.
But that's just me and I really know little about it beyond growing up wishing I could play for LSU and trying to beat Bama and everybody else.

Yes! A guy that says "I'm going to LSU to beat Saban and win a championship, come go with me"
It can be done. LSU has won and can/will again. If not I had fun playing for my school.

Perhaps he could get the same level conditioning and certainly can play alongside top level talent at LSU. But I can't argue with you on the others unless it would be position coaching with Raymond. Then I hear people saying he's leaving so...

I guess it's really a business as early as going to another state to attend specialty high schools for football players. Not blaming anybody though just making comments

I think we are a very quality quarterback away from being monsters again. With an average QB we've been able to win about 70-plus percent of our games. I think this class is fine. Coach O said this class is his ratings of players, not Rivals, ESPN, etc. We will see what kind of eye he has for talent with this class. ... To be great again we have to have great quarterback play.

This is exactly why I would like to see an NFL minor league system to take the players who are only interested in a professional football path.

The college game should be restored to the student-athlete.

How many teams above Alabama in the recruiting rankings have won a championship lately? Yeah, sounds like a lot kids made that choice

Some kids just want to go where they can plug into a team that habitually wins championships. At the high school level, how many kids went to Curtis over the years where it was a huge disappointment when they DIDN'T win a championship.

A young, fresh, exciting coach can sometimes sell those types of kids on "come here and be a part of building a team that can get to that level."

I'm not sure our current coaching setup fits into that category though.
