The earliest I have seen is 8th grade.

I've heard of new fathers commit the new born son to the Tigers in the delivery room

The doctor slapped big Herman Johnson on his arse when he was born and told him he was going to LSU and it surely became true. Lol, age seems to not matter anymore.

When they are good enough to dominate at high school varsity level

Certain schools have football programs that allow 8th graders on the varsity squad, that's really about as early as it gets. In some cases a kid is such a phenomenal athletic specimen that they are known before getting out of middle school and are such sure things that programs all over will be on top of them from the age of 13-14. Dylan Moses, Leonard Fournette, Derek Stingley...these are the latest kids to be tagged and in contact with staff members from the age of 14 that were just in Louisiana.
