after seeing how the season confessed, we needed all the offensive and defensive linemen we could get. Here is where I am just a little puzzled. I hate to second guess a coach but if we get Chase to go alone with Marshall, that would give us a class with 4 receivers, two running backs, possibly no quarterback and only three defensive backs. Is this a sign we are going to emphasis on the passing game? Did we sign too many receivers the last three years? Just curious??

Read previous posts.. we can hopefully sign at least 2 elite backs next year, and a lot of people underestimate Chris curry. Go watch his film

Our defensive back depth took a hit with both corners leaving.. but if we get surtain and Goodrich, we’ll be fine. Kary, Fulton, greedy are 3 corners that are really, really good. Greedy will be a thrope finalist, bank on it.. he was our best cover corner by far last year.

When talents such as Marshall and chase come along... you sign them, no matter the need. They are freaks

This.

Marshall and Chase could end up being comparable to Beckham and Landry. Not in terms of the type of WR they are but in terms of importance to our program.

To clarify, I want Goodrich, Foster, Chase and Surtain. I believe Marshall and Chase will be special, but... We already signed Jones and Jenkins, to go along with McMath and Netherly in 2017 and Drake, Anderson and Sullivan. That's 10 receivers in three years. I just think we too much of a priority on receivers this year when we need depth at corner back, quarterback and running back. Next year is too far down the road.

So you would rather us just tell chase to hit the road? As William G said, terrace and chase can be a very, very special duo. If Brennan or narcisse actually develops, yes i said actually, them two along with a qb will
Be lethal. If we sign an elite back or two next year.. our offense, for once, can be special and might actually win games for us

Not that they aren’t talented kids, but I don’t see Mcmath or netherly being ahead of this duo in future depth charts

Chase is far from the issue. I want Chase also. The bigger question is about the other two receivers.

At the time we took Jenkins and Jones Marshall was far from a lock and Chase was seemingly looking for any place other than LSU. Have t remember at that time we were after quite a few OOS wrs as well. Something could have been figured out closer to the early signing day but I think the staff were set with those 2 and not waivering. It also seems like the staff was always gonna take at least 4 in this class so we will end up about as expected. Expect some attrition after the spring .

Terrace Marshall and Jamarr Chase are potentially awesome WR's, but people need to pump the brakes because as always it is a big transition for kids going from HS ball to the next level. These two aren't just gonna come in and jump over all these vet WR's at LSU that have worked their butts off to get to where they are now.

To answer you question, yes, LSU is loaded at WR like I've been talking about on here for the last two weeks now, they will have about 12 talented WR's. Dee Anderson, S Sullivan, J Giles, D Davis, D Dillon, M Netherly, R McMath, and J Jefferson. Add T Marshall, J Jenkins, K Jones, and probably J Chase to that group and that is to me probably one of the deepest and most talented group of receivers in the country. And yes, the plan this upcoming season is for them to throw the ball, throw the ball a lot out of a spread or RPO offense according to Mr. Ensminger.

They will still run the ball too because it is LSU, and they have RB's galore that can run, but haven't been tested. In 2019 they will probably get 3 of the best RB's in the country, so they def won't have a dropoff at RB, but this upcoming season they will have to run by committee. But the plan is to throw the football like never before at LSU, Ensminger said he wants to use all these big, strong and physically gifted WR's that they have because WR is the strength this year and not RB. And a lot of people wanna see if that is really goonna happen because it is LSU we talking about. Lol Gotta see it to believe it!

We needed help in the trenches. O said it and Ray Charles could see it. Coach O said that it was what he needed to address. Which will bring our class rating lower. Which doesn't matter,it had to be done. Clueless people will criticize. This is not a beauty pageant.

Why do people think this makes sense? You know there are highly rated offensive and defensive lineman? All your post is saying is we weren't able to get those types.

I'm not judging our class (I mostly like it a lot), this is just the logic of some people with this "filling needs" stuff.

We are going to need a lot of good receivers for the foreseeable future as Ensminger is morphing us into an RPO offense with 3 to 4 wideouts. Which is why Sullivan was hired.

Nonetheless, earlier in the process nobody thought we would end up with Chase but nonetheless, since he wants to come now, LSU would be stupid not to find room for that guys, as he is a freak.

Although there are higher rated lineman, they are not in our state. I like everyone else would love to get some higher rated players but it is not easy to pull them from out of state.
Also negotiating the early signing period and 25 player cap makes waiting for quality players a lot more risky. It seems as though the coaching staff wanted to trust their evaluations to lock down as many quality signatures as possible for the early period.
This recruiting class allows LSU to be more selective with the major talent for 2019.

OL is major issue. I think we are gonna have 12 next year and that's far too few. Should carry 15-16. Have to address that issue majorly in the 19 class. The staff is doing that so far but a long way to go. Would also help if Rosenthal or hines shift over once on campus.

This is correct. The number next year is 12, which is actually one more than this past year. I was really hoping that Weathersby and Clapp would stay another year. Them staying would have had our numbers closer to where they need to be.

That said, I'll be really surprised if either/both of Rosenthal/Hines don't end up on the offensive line.

When it comes to LSU passing game, I have to actually see it to believe it. I have heard for almost ten years now we would open up the passing game only to look exactly the same each year. Hand the ball of to Hill, Fournette, Guide and Williams. My point is, there is no way I don't sign Chase if he wants to come to LSU, but if my memory serves me correctly, we have signed only three running backs, three quarterbacks to 11 receives in the past three recruiting cycles. I know 2019, there are running back studs like Emory, Davis and Cain but this year maybe one of the most important offensively for LSU in a decade
