Do early enrollees count against last year's class or this year's class? More specifically if we do not sign 25 this year can we over sign 25 next year and have early enrollees count against this year's class?

They count for this years class. Previously 3 could be backcounted if the prior class was under 25 but new SEC anti-oversigning rules prohibit it. Solid 25 limit, no more back counting.

You must also always be at or under 85 total 'ships

So given that you will lose kids through academics, transfers, etc. it would probably be a huge mistake to not take 25 in this years class, correct? I see where some posters in other threads are questioning signing some of the kids just for the sake of filling out your 25 for this year. Not saying that I know enough about the recruits to know if it is a stretch on some of them but just given the facts it seems a must to always fill out your 25 slots.

25 players over a 5 year period is 125 kids. You only can have 85.

If you get quality recruits and develop them you will average under 25 ships per year.

Or you can go the Tennessee/Bama route and trapdoor dead weight upperclassmen and sign the max number of kids every year

Big Kat do you have a link to where it says backcounting is no longer allowed?

Previously the limit was 28, and several schools signed more than that because some could count back. I don't see how changing the limit from 28 to 25 changes it, but I may be interpreting it incorrectly.

As for LSU, I don't think we have room for anyone to count back.

We would never do that here...

Just my interpretation but you can still count back (assuming there is room under the 25/85 limits). I have never seen a link to the actual language of the rule.

You could (again, assuming there is room): (1) sign 25 including early enrollees, count the early enrollees back, and simply not have a full 25-initial-counter-limit class for the current year (would be decreased by the number who could count back); or (2) sign 25 summer/fall enrollees and have them all count for the current class, but simply have your early (spring) enrollees not sign LOI's (nobody HAS to sign one) so they don't count against the SEC's 25-LOI limit.

I really don't think the SEC cares if guys are counted back. I think what they care about are guys being promised they have a spot then being asked to grayshirt.

That math makes sense but you usually have between 5-10 that don't redshirt and my best guess is at least 5 out of every class will drop out after 1-2 years for one of the specified reasons listed above. We have managed to stay under 85 recruiting 28 players a year so I would think nothing has changed on the quality of players. We will hopefully hit on the greater percentage that match or exceed expectations and the lesser percentage will be the kids who do not and will quit the team. In any case we need the 25 a year to keep the quality of the roster.

Ok, after reading through many poorly worded articles you are still allowed to backcount with EE's

This article did the best job of explaining the three new roster management rules

Is Jeremy Hill an early enrollee? If so, why is he not listed with LSU's class on Tigerbait.com?
Is he considered a 2011 recruit? Thanks

Thanks for that article. I've read probably 20 articles released on the day of the rulings and almost everyone have some different interpretations of what actually was decided. It's the most confusing mess I've seen in a while. I don't think anyone but the compliance people actually know what the correct rule is. We'll all be confused again next year. I don't know how to link but I've read articles that absolutely contradict parts of that article. Unreal.
