QB Collective coaches impressed with LSU commit Garrett Nussmeier
LINK /

quote:

Just explosive,” QB Collective instructor Will Hewlett stated. Nussmeier was one of 13 prominent signal-callers in the Hoosier State competing at the two-day camp.

”He’s grown since I last seen him (a summer ago) and was able to generate a lot of force,” Hewlett continued. “Very fluid, very whippy, one thing I like about him is he really thrives outside the pocket. When there is some pressure or off schedule stuff he does a great job to manipulate his body or arm to make any throw.”

quote:

“Nussmeier for how small he is, he can really whip it, he can move around really well and he has quick feet,” QB Collective instructor Sage Rosenfels said. Rosenfels played 12 seasons under center in the NFL.

Didnt like this part “Nussmeier for how small he is"

It's essentially the only hangup with him that I can see, at least as far as rankings are concerned. Every other thing they look for in a qb to validate rankings is validated through the statements in that article. Not sure what 247s dispute with him is. Can't be just size because he's bigger than Bryce Young.

Drew Brees with a stronger arm
I like it
Decent stats for jr in high school
May still have a growth spurt left

It's going to be a wide open competition once Brennan leaves after 2 years as starter

Finley
Johnson
Nussmeier
Howard

Ideal would be to space out Finley/Johnson and Nuss/Howard. Two will likely transfer at some point if they don't win the job.

This is what CFB is all about now. Not so much about being prototypical NFL QB anymore, in terms of size and skill set.

Guys that I call 'shortstops'. Can you throw on the run, from different planes, at different speeds. Can you plant at the drop of a dime and get rid of the ball with force.

Yeah I was going to say not really bothered he doesn’t have prototypical size for college

He was 6'1.5 verified at The Opening in March of 2019. I would expect him to be somewhere north of 6'2 by the time he comes to BR. He was 171lbs then and I've read some articles that indicate he's around 190 now. He's got his SR season to add a little more bulk and the offseason at LSU in the S&C program. My guess is he'll be around 200-205 by then and won't start as a FR anyway due to the current roster.

I love his film. He is capable of making off schedule throws and puts velocity on his throws without having to wind up. His interviews also indicate that he has the drive to continue to develop not just physically, but learn all the intricacies necessary to be an elite QB.

Sounds similar to the traits, Brady indicated a QB must have to run this offense most efficiently. Accuracy and the ability to move/run when there is an opportunity.

He's 182 pounds. LSU fans were having daily discussions lamenting Brennan's weight when he was 210.
Drew Brees is 209 pounds, and about an inch shorter, for comparison

So which of our QBs ends up transferring? Room’s getting crowded with really good ones.

In my mind I have a pretty good idea who will be the odd man out, but I don't see the need in posting it.

As for Nuss I really like the kid. I think he is a can't miss QB prospect with his skill set and intangibles. Whether he will ultimately win out over a Max Johnson, Walker Howard, etc and be a multi-year starter at QB for LSU who knows.

Kid has what it takes to lead a team to a championship though IMO, and he will only get better as he matures physically.

O and E have completely transformed the future QB room at LSU.

The worst part was when Moscona asked for a comp and waited all excitedly for the hype machine to start and we got.....current Syracuse QB Tommy Devito.

The kid is starting to get noticed on a national level.

It’s pretty funny how some continue to dismiss him and try to devalue his talent

The coaches all over America are starting to get a glimpse. This kid just gets better the more he plays and learns.

Sounds familiar doesn’t it

re: QB Collective coaches impressed with LSU commit Garrett Nussmeier
College football history is full of productive QBs who didn't have prototypical size. Just off the top of my head I can think of several like Charlie Ward, Troy Smith, Doug Flutie, Timmy Chang, Tim Rattay, Kellen Moore, and on and on.

If you look at the D1 career passing leaders only 3 of the top 10 were 6'3" or taller. Size matters more in the NFL but even that's changing. Don't get me wrong in a perfect world every LSU QB would be 6'5" 220 running a 4.4.

Instead you can just not talk about him in your post. Cool.

I’m confused. Why do people talk about Nussmeier’s size so much but ignore that Howard is even smaller? I’m too young to remember his dad. Was he a big QB? Are people just expecting a big growth spurt from Walker?

Bc there is a segment of folks who have dug their heels in and simply refuse to acknowledge that he is an elite quarterback. He’s got everything you’d want as he’s showing the nation by going up against higher rated guys

You can have the guy who stands 6’5, 220, can throw it 100 yards from one knee, but can’t throw the ball in the ocean from the sand, and I’ll take the guy who stands 6’1, who is intelligent, works his arse off, can read a defense like a pro, who is accurate, and is a born leader. I’d like my chances every time

In modern NCAA football I would say that it's likely 2 of those transfer either way. What you have to do is have Johnson and Finley as the backups this year regardless. Whichever player didn't really play, throw a red shirt on them but if you can't, you can't and you just have to accept that you're going to lose one of them. I would think the goal is getting one of the two of them ready to back up Brennan for 2 years and Redshirt Nussmeier
