One of the key turning points in Surtain’s recruitment was Corey Raymond

According to Ott (close to the Surtain family), Saban attacked Raymond’s position at LSU and if he would be leaving. That was the first major crack in the armor.

Raymond was the major reason that Surtain was coming here and Bama planted the coaching instability flag.

Did Bama really have to point that out to him? Lol

Hellen Keller could see there's uncertainty at LSU.

I'll be honest.

What program doesn't negative recruit these days. Everyone does it.

Still not the reason Surtain chose Bama

He was talking about the staff as whole having instability because Ed's going to get fired soon not just Raymond leaving for a new job.

That’s saban’s go to line. He said the same thing about miles and Cameron as well as Pete Jenkins.

Ok, then why didn't Raymond just assure Surtain he wasn't leaving?

Every coach in the country picked up on this angle the day Ed O was hired.

Alleva has set the program up to fail.

Because he might not have any say in the matter.

Looks like Saban is batting 1.000 so far. He'll be right on all 3.

LSU had how many months to disprove this? I mean, does Raymond and O just sit there and not say anything and let Saban lie and let Surtain believe the stuff being said?

Or was there any truth to it? Was Raymond considering leaving based on his pay/rumors of him being unhappy about the hiring someone to coach safeties.

My point being, this seems like something that can be easily defended if there is no truth to it. And yet he still signs with Bama.

I actually believe Surtain basically gave the real reason he wants to go to Bama, but people keep making up BS theories why he didn't sign with LSU just to make themselves feel better.

it's really a no brainer. you can go to bama and play for a great coach and win titles...or come to LSU where the staff might be gone in 2 years and compete for music city bowls.

It’s not just one thing that makes a recruit do something like this. There are many reasons. The Raymond angle was just Saban’s first play to plant a seed of doubt in PS2’s head.

No, Ott said the staff (including Raymond) went to see Surtain after this and talked him off the ledge, but it was the first major issue that Saban brought up.
