Very interesting. No QB this year has the full monty of attributes you like to see.

I say wait until next year and grab a top-rated QB. We def don't need one in this years class...

Why don’t people understand this with QB’s? With the transfer portal now more than ever you take a QB EVERY year. There’s too much attrition at the position to say otherwise.

I feel like you just contradicted the hell out of yourself. The transfer portal makes it less important to get a qb every year

What if the portal is weak and the incoming freshmen class is strong. You can’t rely just on the portal. It’s best to try and get an incoming freshman every year.

That’s not what you said. You said you should take a QB every year. If you miss out on the top QBs, there’s no need to waste space on a bench warmer that will end up transferring anyway, such as Justin Mcmillian, Anthony Jennings, Hayden Rettig, Parrish, etc.

There will be kids in the portal from D1 schools that were either overlooked or passed up in the portal every single year.

The very reason you mentioned TO take a QB every year is precisely why it’s not really necessary to take one every year. QBs in the portal will be a dime a dozen.

That’s true and I see where I contradicted myself I was thinking of Collins in BR. Even with the portal you take him or a similar QB every year you can.

Oh man does armchair tiger have some words for you, good sir! Lol

Agree with you. They come and go too quickly to “decide” not to take a QB in a class

WM_Tiger it takes a big man to admit a mistake. Kudos. We have two young guns on the bench. I think it will be very hard to pull someone out of HS worth adding to the roster this season. We shall see, though. And I'd love the Collins, dude. I think he's going to be a good one.

Two different issues at play here.

1. LSU should take a QB every year. It's far and away the most important position on the team. A great QB can lift a team. Miles' downfall was the failure to sign a good QB every year.

2. BK doesn't seem to be in a position to land a serviceable QB this year. That sucks. No point in signing a mediocre QB.

You can just poach a stud qb these days.

What the article seems to imply is that QBs, think Arch Manning and Dante, are a mystery this cycle, i. e. overrated.

A few posters on here have said this over and over again...

Problem with relying on the portal is that some QB's are "system" QB's, whose skills are highly developed and effective but only within a certain system.
And the inverse is true:
Some systems are so developed in a particular school that it may take a couple of years to understand all the reads and assignments.
This makes the portal a less less reliable than recruiting QBs whose physical talents fit your system and grooming them to fit in it.

I believe the article said Dante was not as athletic as many of the others...

Having Walker Howard as a freshman this year along with a young Nussmeier is both a blessing and a curse.

Everyone knows Howard is the future QB for LSU, and having Nuss to fill in the gap means pretty much no other QB will see the field in the near future at LSU.
