You are the parent of a 2021 QB considering options. What is your advice to him about the following scenario (and why)?:

Background: Your son is a 4 star, rated as the 10th best pro style passer and top 175 player. He is a hair over 6-1, weighs 188 lbs (but is listed as 6-2, 200). He runs a 4.8 40. His arm strength is above average but more Burrow than Brennan. His strength is his vision and pocket awareness. His weakness is that he's not a freak athlete (but athletic enough). He plays in a lower class in Texas so has not gone up against D-I prospects routinely (outside of the 7 on 7 circuit where he has performed well) but he also doesn't have the luxury of playing with big time receivers. In fact, outside of him, no one on his team is more than a D-II or D-III prospect. He has very good grades and a 33 on the ACT.

Options:

LSU - with Brennan presumed to start in 2020 and 2021 and a lot of uncertainty thereafter. Rated 153rd best college in the country but parents went there and he's grown up a fan.

Texas - No heir apparent post-Ehlinger. Rated 48th best college in the country. Home state.

Princeton - Here's a curve ball. He would not get into this school absent football but his 33 ACT score and good grades gets him in on an athletic exemption. According to US News, Princeton is the #1 college in America. There is a senior QB for 2020 and a junior for 2021, but he was a 2 star.

Notre Dame - His academics would make Notre Dame a "reach" school but he might get in on his own. There is a RS freshman and true freshman backing up Ian Book in 2020.The RS is a three star. The true frosh was rated about the same as your son is now rated.

Stanford - The #6 college in the country. The incumbent will be gone in 2021. The backup is a sophomore (2020) who was a four star but lower rated than your son.

What do you advise and why?

Probably Stanford or ND. Combo of athletics and academics.

Notre dame is absolutely not a "reach school" for a 4* QB with a 33 ACT and good grades.

That being said, I'd go Notre Dame or Texas.

Pro prospects seem very LOW. I would say Stanford.

Princeton or Stanford. If it looks like he's greatly out-perfomring the QBs at those schools and shows a higher probability of an NFL career, transferring is easy now. If not, he can say he went to Princeton or Stanford and do whatever he wants after school.

But really, send him to LSU's camp.

Texas has Casey Thompson next in line at QB, plus just signed Ja'quinden Jackson and Hudson Card. And they have Jalen Milroe committed for 2021.

I meant it would be a reach if he wasn't a football player. This profile kid would not get into Princeton or Stanford without football. They have about a 30% shot at Notre Dame. And Texas has some weird instate rules that make it not a certainty.

The notion is stacking up various factors based on a really talented (but not can't miss) prospect at a wonky position.

First, what a fantastic conundrum to find ones self. Congrats

It depends on financials
I would not borrow a dime to attend a single one of those institutions.

Princeton or Stanford would be my choice because of academics and connections. If he has a surge in athletic ability, then the NFL will find him from any school.

Just my 0.02

Just to be clear, this is purely a hypo. My own son is 4!

Stanford.

Cannot beat a free ivy league education and play in P5 conference.

This. Stanford really gives the best of both worlds. Out of all those schools, Stanford has the most recent QB drafted in the first round as well (Burrow will be obviously).
