Congrats to Jenkins. Hopefully that puts some pressure on Roy and Guillory to make a decision. O’s not gonna wait on these guys forever.

At this point, I would assume they chose from either us or the gumps.

What’s the chances on all 3 committing?

Isn’t NSD in February? I’m confused why these 4 and 5 star kids need to hurry up and give verbal commits in June... That’s too long for them to change their mind anyways

Impatient fans. Recruiting, it seems, has transformed into some high pressure sales kinda crap. These kids still have a full season of football to play in HS. O will get the ones he needs, there's plenty of time.

No they want them committed by the early signing period. that way the surprises are kept to a minimum.

There is also Early Signing period in December, and we like to lock down as much of the class in Dec as possible.

after watching the year-long drag outs end on previous signing days in a bad way, and you are wondering this out loud.

O doesn't want get 68'd again and again.

You build and keep relationships with these kids now.
Easier to lose someone who hasn’t fully bought in to the program IMO

Casual observers of recruiting should probably comment less and educate themselves more. At least be familiar with what has happened to LSU over the years when they “ held spots” for in state guys who are instructed to prolong their decision so as to inflict maximum damage on LSU recruiting. If the instate kids want to play games that’s fine, but their spot is going to get filled while they flirt with Tiny Nick. You don’t stand there bewildered on signing day holding your dick wondering wtf just happened. First evaluated player that you want who commits wins. You get your guy and you ride. The end.

It doesn’t work like that. There are only so many true difference makers in any class or in your state each year. These kids have leverage of sorts.

There is a reason coaches hold scholarships for certain kids till late in the game.

What can’t happen is putting all your eggs into 1 basket and then having no “quality” back up towards the end. It’s obviously a challenge and having a good feel/read on kids and their families is key imo.

In short, if a Delpit or Stingley wants to wait till late in the process you have to give some concession to that otherwise you’d end up with a class of pretty good or good players and not enough difference makers. (I realize neither of these 2 waited till late)

Because the recruiting process is now starting so early, and O and staff push as hard as they do for Dec signings, you pretty much know who is serious and who you have to calculate rolling the dice with...especially in state. Every kid is unique, but my sense from the recent past is that if O hasn’t received a signature from an in state kid high on their list by December then he is at best a 50/50 kid to sign with LSU in Feb.

You can dictate to kids that are easily replaceable, but it’s different with the elite guys. I like the way LSU is casting a wider net this year.

The large majority of committed recruits honor their commitment and shut it down therefore locking down the recruits before national signing day, earlier the better for sure.

Committing early helps in case he gets injured during his senior year

12.4 % of committed recruits did not end up signing between 2007 and 2011 periods so the schools are ahead knowing 87.6% of their committed recruits will most likely sign.

Good post.

Another thing that is often glossed over is that elite kids can leverage more $ by signing late.

They can create bidding wars with under the table $ with schools like Bama, GA, LSU, etc. and can you really blame them?

They don’t all play this game but A LOT do.

It actually does work like that. If an indispensable player wants in they will gray shirt somebody or do what they need to make room but they certainly aren’t holding a position spot . They aren’t saying “ you are our RB “ or “you are our DL”. They are filling those spots regardless.

it's called "Sh-T of get off the pot"
When LSU waits on a prospect, all this does is "Harm them and CONTINUES to harm them"
O is telling these kids, either your in, and we WANT YOU, or we are just going to fill your spot, period...

Lol you can't be serious...A 3-star commit doesn't put any pressure on these two guys. O will recruit these guys all the way up until signing. The real pressure is on O to seal the deal and not allow two more elite DTs to leave the state to go to Bama.

Yep....last minute flips to Bama has to stop.
We end up missing out on two top players...

The POS that flipped and the other top players you didn’t pursue because you thought the POS was signing with you.

I know they’re just kids, but a last minute flip is just dirty as can be, and I think deserves the POS language.

Off the top of my head Patrick Surtain Jr.

We lost out on another DB because of that.

The Surtain situation might not be the best example to use because he was never "publicly committed". It did end up being an odd situation but Coach O deciding to only take 1 cb in that class was also an odd decision.

I think both sides made poor decisions in that process but at least it did not bite us in the arse because we ended up getting K. Fulton back.

Coach O did not know that was going to happen but good for us that it did happen.

I would have taken Goodrich on that last weekend and then decided on the final day how to handle the numbers.

Truthfully that was one odd recruiting situation.
