Since we already knew it wasn’t us, I’ll take this as good news that it’s not UK

I must have missed some news, I thought we were still in it with him. Oregon is def better than Kentucky.

Nike,

Kind of feel for the kid a bit, would have been a huge difference maker here and instant starter. We got screwed over with the Wade stuff in this sense. He was going to come here before all that went down and then he started looking elsewhere. Sucks he'll be forgotten now playing in the PAC-12.

And looks like Greg Brown, who was just about all LSU at one point, has dropped LSU from consideration. As well as Micha Peavy. Several top players that were high on LSU are now CBed elsewhere or dropped LSU. And LSU will really need a big class for 2020. I'm not even confident we can get top rated Juco's at this point. I hate being negative, but after losing out on several top players, it's just discouraging.

He's not wrong that we'll need a big class, but we won't actually need all that many impact players.

By next season somebody out of Cooper, Thomas and (I'm betting) the last guy we take this summer will be ready to play a solid 5 for us. By next season Days will be a junior and he's going to be a Draymond Green type at the 4. And by then you'll have Hyatt, Manning, Bishop and Cook to handle your perimeter.

That's eight pretty good returning players to start out with before Wade has to do any recruiting.

That assumes you lose both Emmitt Williams and Trendon Watford, which might not be a valid assumption.

That team right there is an NCAA Tournament team. Then you're adding pieces to it, and if any of them are good enough to start you begin to look like a conference championship contender. Otherwise you can take a nice bunch of kids who can help you with depth and develop into down-the-road starters. Nothing wrong with that - you don't have to be Kentucky. They don't win championships anyway with all the one-and-dones.

I don't think people realize how good Manning and Bishop are going to be. Wade doesn't throw around effusive praise lightly, and if you listen to him talk he's overflowing on those two kids. Let them play as veterans in this system and look out.

That’s a bit over the top with all that pessimism. Lots of time to change minds. Another strong season without bad news would make things much better.

I suppose I'm just feeling a little discouraged. Hope you are right. Normally I'm more positive, just seems there's a large mountain to climb for Wade to get us back in good graces with these top players. But, if anyone can do it, WW can.

Normally not so pessimistic. But hop you are right. I think Wade is a hella coach and recruiter and if anyone can right the ship it's him.

It just feels so different that there's a coach that actually has a plan for all of this. Coach Wade seems to go about this very methodically. Its very refreshing

It just shows how hard it is for a solid, but not elite, program to maintain consistency. Too many players go after one or two years because they know they'll at least make some money over seas if they don't get drafted. It was great during the Dale Brown years because he always had a serviceable core and when he'd sign elite players (John Williams, Chris Jackson, Shaq) he'd always get at least two years out of them unless there were grade issues (see Roberts).

I'm actually optimistic because Wade is the first coach LSU has had that seems to be able to handle these new dynamics. I was very impressed that he landed Watford, but almost as impressed that he found someone like Thomas this late in the game (an athletic serviceable big that should be able to defend the middle). If he gets Tolu Smith, that just gives me more confidence. What he did to get Bigby-Williams was similar. He's always thinking ahead, properly managing every aspect of recruiting and player development.

We'll be fine.

Wade is very detailed and puts a lot of emphasis on the little things. But it is the little things that add up to the big things.
