Not a direct response to your question, but this was just posted on Surtain:

"LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond was joined by defensive coordinator Dave Aranda for an in-home Wednesday visit with the Surtains. The Tigers look to counter Alabama, which hosted Surtain Jr. for an official visit last weekend.

LSU has been the leader throughout his recruitment. It looked like Alabama closed the gap a bit during his Tuscaloosa visit, but LSU and family sources are showing unwavering confidence that he will play his collegiate football in Baton Rouge.

The only certainty in recruiting is that there are no certainties. With that said, it appears LSU is poised to sign the nation's top-ranked cornerback."

Yep. This morning he had no picks for Bama and now he has one. Not rocket science.

According to Shea's Twitter, the Surtains hosted two SEC schools last night. I'm not vip, so I'm not sure who the other team was, but I can guess...

I figured this would happen, some fool tennessee writer puts in a CB and people start freaking out. If its not Hank South or Shea and Sonny, dont worry about it

Brad Sheppard, a Tennessee writer who has correctly predicted just 55% of his CB's, put one in for Bama.

During the in home last night, PS2 reiterated to Coach Raymond and Aranda that LSU leads. Lead isn’t as firm as it once was IMO, but it’s still there.

As for Raymond, don’t worry. He’s not going anywhere this offseason. Bama tried the same tactic last year with Jacoby Stevens. Didn’t work then, won’t work now. I can say with a good amount of certainty that as long as Corey is here, we’ll sign Pat.

From Hank South, Bama’s 247 Recruiting guy

“And to beat anyone to the punch on Patrick Surtain Jr. -- he is a guy I'm seriously considering Crystal Balling to Bama right now. Trying to gather a little more information on him before pulling the trigger, though.”

Well I guess we'll have an idea what's up if LSU suddenly offers Eddie Smith.

You gotta figure, LSU DB's become Superstars as freshman. While at Alabama you don't hear about them until couple years later. At LSU you can have three years of stardom and get a bigger contract as a DB in the NFL. I'm sure our DB's make more money than Bama DB's in the NFL
