Brennan will be primed and ready but with the way the transfer portal is becoming more and more of a factor, with top tier players transferring out, we need to be in position to take one or two. If a QB that is to good to pass up on is in the portal, with as attractive as our offense should be to a transfer QB, then we need to be in position to take him. Maybe pick one out of Finley and Johnson, which ever the staff thinks has the most potential, sign him and drop the other one.
Also, and maybe even more important with the way our class just isn't getting commitments from big time OL's (so far), we might need to go the route of a transfer to fill a spot or two there.
Leaving a spot or two for transfers would probably be a good strategy to fill immediate needs each and every year now that the transfer portal is being used so much by very good players. You just never know who is going to be available and now we should be more attractive to transfers than ever.

Supposedly grad transfers may be an issue for a year or two. So no immediate help there. We will have 4 QB's competing as is.

That sounds good on paper, but kind of has to be the plan earlier on in the cycle. At this point we are already looking at a shortage of slots where we could either have to turn away 4/5* recruits who want in or drop guys already committed. Making room for another 2 slots would be pretty rough to pull off.

could drop one of the two current QB's that are committed and go through the rest of the commitments and see where it could be trimmed. For example, do we really need 4 WR's in this class? or all the DE's and DT's we have committed at this time, there could be room there. I know it looks bad but recruiting has become a very fluid situation where a commitment from a player doesn't mean as much as it use to mean and that works both ways. It is not a done deal until signing day.

A bird in the hand . . .

I agree its a great plan for the future, but not the circumstance to cut off relationships with schools / coaches from backing off accepted offers.

Brady has only been here through two games. Sign him to a long term contract, get Burrow drafted in early rounds and then we can get the lasting reputation for developing NFL-ready and highly drafted QBs. That will take a little time.

If Brennan isn’t ready next year, then he should be processed. It will be 4 years.

Brennan needs to learn how to put touch on passes and he will be fine.

He can throw it through a brick wall but sometimes you have to throw it over the wall with touch.

No way Brennan would be processed unless the two freshman get ahead of him on the depth chart and I don't see that happening. Therefore at worst Brennan is still your solid backup.

I'm just not sure Brennan has the intangibles that Burrow displays.

Joe oozes confidence, leadership, and swagger. Even as a new guy last year you could tell he was "the man".

I know that sounds silly, but it's that same vibe Rohan used to put out there. Hopefully Brennan gets some confidence in mop up duty this year and we start to see more of that.

Also, he's a statue. Burrow's legs are one of his greatest assets. That will be tough to lose next year.

If Brennan is the next in line, Coach O has to get him more playing time in the games we can afford to.

NW, Utah st, maybe a series or 2 in vany, OM, Ark(depending on game situation).

Can't be 5 minutes left and handoff.

Trust Brady to put the next QB in position to do what he does best. No matter who it is, it’ll be different than Burrow.
Also, thank God we have coaching now that won’t have a Jarrett Lee type running a speed option to the boundary.

I agree this looks to be the case. But on the flip side, Joe came in with less confidence than he displays now and frankly you could see it grow over the progressive wins last year - these things can be expected with anyone.

Once Joe leaves and Miles is given the "keys" it will be up to him. He can build confidence or wither - that will be the test, you just can't really tell right now.

Miles has the physical ability and it would really help if he good gain some good weight as well.

I’m not a recruiting guru, but this sounds good to me. Next year if Brennan doesn’t work out or gets injured we will be in trouble

Burrow literally tried to start a fight with Miami players in his first game. Hard counted Miami for a couple first downs, took hits and stood up smiling, and overall looked completely in control of the game.

Showed up at his first practices with LSU and tried to fight defensive players and earned their respect.

Kid is just cut from a leadership cloth and is a swag king.

He finished a lot higher than Brennan at the Elite 11 that same year.

Burrow has a special make up mentally.

It's not something you can teach at this point, but it is what separates champions from really good talents.
