I saw an article a few days ago that the NCAA is likely to allow players to transfer and play immediately. At first I thought Wow that would be great especially for the players.

Later I thought about how much chaos that could put into a program with players bailing out every time they get pissed off at a coach or their playing time situation. Coaches will be tied up re-recruiting kids every year.

If you couple this with the 25 scholly hard cap a program could get crippled real quick especially in a position of need. The NCAA needs to re-think this and put some checks and balances on it.

JMHO

SBNation

SI.com

To be honest, I am not sure either of these are the article that I read.

I have not read the rule itself but if it is as you say it will ruin college football.

can you imagine having team chemistry when the loser of a position battle just up and transfers. some of these young men have not learned to hold themselves accountable yet. put one on probation and he's gone.

this rule will lead to major discipline problems and the players will be empowered to much. the coaching staff will never be able to know who the hell is going to remain on the team.

even the NFL knows that contracts are necessary. if this rule passes in the form you mention, it will be a disaster. surely the NCAA is not that stupid.

I have not read the rule either but just some summary points. Like I said it just dawned on me how bad unlimited transferring could be.

Players like Deion Jonesand Duke Riley could left earlier for greener pastures

Yes this rule will never happen. Wherever you read that, don’t ever go back to that site. There is zero chance a player can be allowed to jump shite without penalty

Can you link the article, so I can never visit that site in the future?

I heard a radio guy talking about it a few days ago. He said the NCAA was talking about it. Would require certain gpa and other school related things. I doubt it ever gets voted on but it is being discussed

You have to look at the other side a kid has to have a spot available on a teams 85 man roster also. Then with recruiting kids will be hesitant to sign if a team accepts a lot of transfers

Flip side is it may hurt schools like Bama and Ohio State that promise kids early playing time just to sit the bench for first 2 years before getting playing time jr year and starting sr year.

Sure would shake up collage football.

I too agree it would be a disaster on its face. There would have to be a major overhaul on all recruiting rules to implement it without chaos. Class caps would have to go. There would have to be some sort of way to completely eliminate back channel recruiting. Rules to stop kids from following coaches. Many more. Don't think its been fully thought through .

Don't bet that it won't be passed. Coaches were mostly against an early signing period and it passed. Their voices don't really matter when of comes to such things.

I would be for it if it included certain stipulations. These frequent coaching staff changes are screwing a lot of kids.

Why would there have to be stipulations? There are none for coaches and coaches can choose not to renew a scholarship at any time. The athlete is the only party subject to a penalty.

I would be OK with it if the old team agrees with the transfer. No reason to punish the kid if both parties are ok with the separation.

Kinda like coaches allowing transfers within the SEC / blocking others.

There should be no punishment at all for the kid. Since when did we decide it was okay for everyone involved in the program to have the choice to leave or end a kid’s career EXCEPT for the actual kid.

Coach leaves? Tough luck for the kid.

Coach decides to process them? Touch luck for the kid.

Kid decides the situation is no longer beneficial to him? frick him.

They should be allowed to transfer anytime they want to.

This may very well pass based on some discussions I heard today. Based on the argument “If coaches can leave without penalty, kids should be as well.” That’s a huge advantage for programs that stock pile talent
