I think Zakiyah Johnson is gonna get a lot of minutes year one purely for her size, defense and rebounding. Fought off a lot of amazing schools for that one and her efficiency stands out so far. For a perimeter based kid to be shooting nearly 60% from the field and nearly 40% from 3 is impressive this season.

Grace Has been dealing with a lot of lower leg injuries the last 6 months it seems from AAU to now HS ranks it appears. At the Nike EYBL she led among all score players in rebounding and one of the top shot blockers. She’s probably not healthy right now. I got to watch her dominant CY Fair (Aaliyah Chavez and Bella Hines aau team). Her motor is really good and has a more polished perimeter game than morrow but she’ll need to add muscle on her when she hits campus. Being 6’3. She will fit in perfectly at the 4 spot

The freshmen will be good but they have to portal in some juice in the post at the 5 specifically and bring in another PG

I don’t think she is fully healthy and if I recall, I watched Etiwanda play earlier this year and their guards love to throw up a lot of shots and never really passed to the bigs inside. I know in AAU she was the focal player on her team so she stood out mjch more. Bella Hines has the opposite problem, she is the star on her HS team and on AAU she plays a side role to Aaliyah Chavez

But hopefully she heals up and when she gets to campus can put on some muscle with the trainers. I still have high expectations from her year 1 and I bet you the coaches do as well.

I’m thinking LSU adds 3 players from the portal, prob a couple bigs and one PG. The freshmen class is loaded, depth should be the least of our issues if they attack the portal right

I would agree with your assessment of Etiwanda. Their guards DEFINITELY throw up a lot of shots and didn't get the ball to Knox much. When they did, I thought she was effective. I do agree that Kim is going to hit the portal hard for a big post, and possible a point guard. I really think we're covered everywhere else.

I fully expect LSU to add at least 2 bigs and one more potential PG. Yes I know the team is loaded with guards next year but given this year they’ll prob want to add as much as they can and hope someone emerges at PG

Lack of a dependable PG has been our biggest weakness the past 2 years.

The #2 PG recruit Autumn Fleary (five star 2026) will be coming for her official visit soon

I know Knox , Hines, and probably Johnson also are not point guards, What about Bourrage?

You think that bunch of guards on the roster this year will all return next year? You know more than me, but I am wondering if Shepard, Gilbert and Richard all return. I think Cheyenne is OOE and Poa is OOE as well. With the influx coming in I was thinking some would leave

I don't think Richard will leave because she's our point guard of the future. In fact, I think she should be starting next season. I imagine Gilbert will hang around because she IS valuable to this team as a sixth man and she can't afford to tarnish her reputation any further. Not sure what Sheppard might do, although I like her game.

I really don’t see anyone leaving outside of ADR. I suppose Jada could potentially but as of now PG spot is wide open. Either she will fight for that spot, Divine may, or someone could be from the portal but hard to say

I think the big thing with Jada is she is going to need to get a little bit stronger and make significant progress on the defensive end entering year 2. I think that’s mostly the reason she isn’t getting the playing time even though Poa/SDW really aren’t playing well.

Definitely. Jada is the most skilled guard on the team but physically looks like a little kid out there. Needs to get on a good diet and be in the weight room all offseason. I dunno how young she is but she may still be able hit a growth spurt.

I know you are talking point guard but we have seen very little of her this season to make that assessment.

I tend to think at this point in the season if she was the best option at point she’d be seeing playing time.

All that is true, in regard to Jada. But it's true for most freshmen. I remember the same thing happening with Erica White. Her freshman year she didn't get much time behind Temeka, and then came in the next season and the team really didn't miss much at the position. I think Jada can make a similar jump. I really believe she's the best option currently on the roster, but she needs to continue to develop.

didn’t gilbert and sheppard both play pg in high school? at some point this season, at a press conference or talk, i seem to remember kim mulkey saying they both wanted that position too. just wondering if either one of them may emerge in that role.

They can all function as point guards, but skill-wise, they’re more suited for the two-guard role. Jada is the only other true PG besides Shy, though she hasn’t performed at the level Kim expects. We need an elite and capable point guard.

Jada can be that if given a chance.
