How is Aleyah Andrews not first team All American

She just doesn’t have the offensive numbers, extra base hits, etc to get there I’m guessing. If you look at the offensive numbers of the outfielders across the country in comparison you’ll see the difference. Voters don’t appreciate the things Andrew’s is so great at. They are looking for HRs and RBIs.

Agree, and I’m actually surprised she was even named second team as heavy as the voters weigh offense. Rarely do great defensive players get the recognition they deserve.

re: LSU Softball Commitments/Recruiting Thread
EUGENE — Oregon softball’s most promising young player is leaving the program.

Shortstop Alyssa Brito, who hit .299 with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs as a freshman this season, has entered the transfer portal, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

A second team all-Pac-12, all-freshman and all-defensive team honoree by the conference, Brito started 53 games for the Ducks this season. She scored 30 runs with a .374 on-base percentage and .556 slugging percentage and tied for the team lead in home runs.

Brito’s average fell to .200 with one home run and just three RBIs in Pac-12 play as she closed the regular season 2 for her last 36. She went 4 for 14 with a solo home run and made several spectacular plays in the field over five games in NCAA Regional play for the Ducks, who were eliminated by Texas last weekend.

Don't expect coach Torina to do much fishing in the transfer portal. She prefers to recruit and develop players during their four years in the program.

I don't think she needs to do any major fishing but I don't think it would be a bad thing to supplement your roster and improve it if possible. If you have the opportunity to add a great player who can better your team, I'm for it.

With the portal, college athletics is changing quickly in terms of teams building and improving their teams. Quite a few of the teams in OKC definitely used the portal to their advantage.

I understand being loyal to the kids you have been recruiting for years, but the game is changing. Whether they like it or not the portal is where teams are going from good to great and the game is going to pass her up if she can't adapt. With the top recruiting classes she is pulling every year, it's starting to be glaringly obvious that it's not a lack of talent that is holding the team back.

Agree 100%. I do not recall seeing a lineup in OKC this week with 2 or more slap hitters like LSU has. I saw some really good catchers...passed balls and dropped throws at home plate were a rarity. I saw most of the pitchers throw in the low 70's routinely with command. Even saw some very effective LHP's as well. The hitters are hitting more homers than ever before, it looks that way anyhow. Those are the areas where Beth needs to shore up, perhaps through the portal. Quite frankly we will need a better effort behind the plate, need to replace the 3rd baseman, 2 corner Outfielders, and second base. That's a lot to replace in one offseason and I am not convinced they are on the roster now. Are you?

re: LSU Softball Commitments/Recruiting Thread
The guns in OKC are juiced up, almost every pitcher was hitting 72-73 which isn't accurate. You don't need to be hitting 70+ to be effective.

That said, the biggest priority this offseason needs to be improving/adding more fire power at the plate and shoring up the weak spots on the infield (2B and catcher mostly). If LSU can add a proven bat to the lineup from the portal, I think we need to take advantage of that. At this time we only have two kids returning who hit over .300 (Briggs and Pleasants) with the next closest player is Clark at .252.

Brito, Brandner, Rollin, and Simmons would be at the top of the board for transfers I would express heavy interest in. Those first three can hit the ball really well. Simmons is a catcher who played with Pleasants before on the junior national team.

Fouts was sitting at 72 on every pitch that wasn't a change into the dirt. Sandercock was about the only one not hitting 70 routinely but she was 68 or 69.

re: LSU Softball Commitments/Recruiting Thread
You are the second person that says the guns were juiced in OKC. Even if that is the case, we have no one that throws the heat like Fouts, Garcia and Juarez (from the left side). Do all the power hitters go to Oklahoma? Is their home run prowess due to the weather and atmospheric conditions at their ball park? We have to get girls who can hit homers on a more consistent basis. I don't see too many teams scoring runs stringing 3 and 4 hits together.

I think OU wins today by simply out homering the Noles. What do you think?

We don't have Hoover and Walljasper type pitchers but that wasn't what stopped us from getting to OKC. Defense and lack of production hitting wise is what cost us in Supers unfortunately. Defense this year was a major issue, 1/3 of the runs given up in SEC play were unearned.

OU literally has the picks of the litter and are more talented than almost everyone else essentially. That said, whatever JT Gaso (hitting coach) has been doing is working.Everyone's BA's and power numbers have jumped off the page with improvement across the board. Their hitters are developing really well. That one area LSU needs to improve on a lot and cleaning up the catcher position.

Hopefully they go to the drawing board this offseason and explore other options to address the weak spots. I hope they fix Sunseri because her bat is badly missed.

I wish someone would work with Savannah Stewart and get her to stop slapping so much....and stay in the box and swing away...she has some pop...she can slap when she see how the defense is playing her....

looks like OU will win it because of the ability to hit homers. thats where the game is going. get the slappers out of the program.....we need hitters

having Briggs and Andrews slapping isn’t what’s holding the offense back. 2 of the 3 hitters above .300 in our lineup were slappers. Do I think there should be half the lineup slapping? Nah but have a couple in it alone isn't a deal breaker, especially if they are hitting and getting on base often. It’s not just hitting home runs that makes OU efficient, they hit for average as well. LSUs swing away hitters didn’t do much consistently with the exception of Pleasants

We got to develop hitters better. Which includes more production 1-9.

I say Brigggs needs to lead off and swing away like Mudge from Florida State. I would be interested to see who has the better 22 season out of those 2 if Briggs quits the slapping

re: LSU Softball Commitments/Recruiting Thread
The real question is what in the world are they going to do with 4 more outfielders coming in in the fall?

Madrey and Brandon can and have played on the infield, they aren't strictly outfielders.

Hopefully they get the best bats out there and make it work defensively.

Why should Briggs change to be like someone who was worse than her in Avg., HRs, Runs, RBIs, Slugging%, and OPS?

re: LSU Softball Commitments/Recruiting Thread
Its not like Briggs slapped every time either. She honestly has a much higher upside than Andrews at the plate. She swings away (increased extra base hits this year), she can slap and bunt. Not a one trick pony. Extremely versatile player.

You have a kid hitting near .350, leave her alone and don't get in the way lol

If someone is struggling a lot, I would be for making changing to their mechanics, approach. But if you have a player doing well, I wouldn't be touching or changing anything that made them successful in the first place.

Saintsfan22 Did you watch the WS? Mudge is now the all time hits leader in the WCWS Doesn’t make her better than Briggs but certainly doesn’t make her worse either
