If we can close with a couple DL, it’ll be a great class.

Probably due to that, 5 or 6 of our guys got some great bumps on 247 composite, too. very close to #3.

Not true.....I read just a few days ago on The Rant that since the CEO hire, recruiting has declined.

To be fair we will loose Miller and probably TK who both have nice grades on the site. Won’t matter if we replace them with similar or better graded players.

Recruiting did decline last year.
Until they are signed, we just have hopes and promises...

One of our top five recruits is a lineman. Four of Bama's top five are linemen. We will continue to get plowed over by Bama if we keep recruiting like this. That's just the cold hard fact.

Ranking means nothing if it doesn't fill the needs

Rank our needs in this class?

Top 3 for me are:
Running back (check)
Corner (check)
QB (check)

I'd have D line slightly ahead of safety for 4th.

So, we've met our most glaring needs and it's not like we have ZERO defensive linemen (like 2015). If we can add one or two more, we'll have easily met our need there for this year.

First of all, take that shite somewhere else.

Secondly, high ranked recruiting classes that failed to meet needs were a signature of Miles and part of what led to his downfall. It's also why all the rankings of how talented our roster is supposed to be are bull shite.

Our OL and DL recruiting with Miles may not have been at Alabama's level, but it was the 2nd or 3rd best in the SEC nonetheless. This idea we've got marginal talent at those positions is absurd.

Name the all SEC and all Americans on the offensive line then. A simple task that you can't do. LSU needs bigger, faster and stronger players on the offensive line. It's not a big mystery. You coach haters can't admit it because it would be one less limb that you could use to beat the coaches over the head with. It flat turns my stomach watching it day in and day out.

If the offensive line had juniors and seniors all along it with maybe one or two sophomores I would be bitching about the coaching too but that's not the case. Some like Cush will get better. Some are playing out of position and weren't ready to play yet anyway. Next year the line will be better.

This isn't true. Go look at the 2013-2016 offensive and defensive line classes. It's a long, long list of pretty highly rated guys, who were either complete misses or didn't come close to their recruiting ranking.

2013
Frank Herron
- high 4*. Career best 21 tackled
Greg Gilmore - high 4*. Only contributed as a senior
Maquedius Bain - low 4*. Transferred after freshman year
Andy Dodd - low 4*. Transferred to McNeese after his RSJr year. Played in 14 games in 4 years at LSU
MJ Patterson - High 3*. 1 tackle in his entire career

2014
Deondre Clark
- Mid 4*. Career high 9 tackles as a freshman and 18 total for his career
Jevonte Domond - low 4*. Played in 4 games in three seasons before transferring to UTSA for his senior season
Sione Teuhema - high 3*. 16 tackles in 20 games over 2 years before transferring to SLU
Trey Lealaimatafao, high 3* - never did anything other than get arrested and punch a mirror

2015
Maea Teuhema
- 5* who had discipline issues and had to transfer to SLU after his second year
Chidi Valentine-Okeke, high 4* - transferred to Tennessee State after his RSFr year
George Brown, high 3* - transferred
Isaiah Washington, high 3* - transferred

2016
Willie Allen
, 4* - transferred to juco and last year was a backup at LA Tech
Travonte Valentine, 4* washout
Sci Martin, 3* - transfer

These are all guys who move the needle on the recruiting ranking and the 247 team talent rankings but who simply weren't close to as good as their ratings. With the exception of Maea Teuhma, none of the transfers would have likely ever seen much of an increase in playing time at LSU, despite our depth issues.

On paper? Possibly

In reality? Most were never productive. Overrated from the start

I'm talking about with Miles over his tenure, including the end. I'm not talking about a specific season.

We've had 9 OL/DL players drafted in the past 5 drafts. Those positions have been plenty talented.

ETA - That doesn't include Collins who would have made 10.

ETA.2 - Ohio State, for random reference, has 12 over that time period.

That's all Slackster and his buddy UpToPar like to look at, the 247 team talent rankings. You know, the ones that are based on the recruiting rankings whether they turn out to be accurate or not.

How about the NFL? The NFL thinks LSU is one of the top schools in the country for OL and DL talent.

You know Clemson won a national title and has played for another one, yet they haven't had an OL drafted in the last 3 years.

Once again, this idea that LSU is hamstrung by a lack of talent on the OL is completely absurd. Innovative offensive schemes are finding ways to make due with much less talent than we've got.

9 linemen drafted over 5 years seems like a lot to you? Arkansas has had 8 linemen drafted in that same timeframe. Also, your 9 includes Key, who was a LB.

FYI - Florida has had 12 during that time period

Edit: and Arkansas has 8! So our lines have been virtually on par with Arkansas according to the NFL.

Our offensive line talent has sucked for 6 or 7 years. At best we've had two guys out of five who were NFL prospects and not a true freshmen. That is not second tier; that's third tier. Our defensive line has been better, but there were years - like last year - when it was bad.
