Langlois has some corner coverage traits too

Looks like a prototypical safety to me. He plays corner in his HS highlights, and it’s awful. In “press” coverage he leans into a backpedal before the snap, and several times he gets turned around within ten yards of the line. And these are his highlights. He is no corner.

Taking darren evans has turned into being a nightmare situation

6th corner at best currently.

I also agree with Les in that corner is fine

Ricks and Stingley outside; Ryan in the slot with Flott.

He looks good in small spaces to me, quick feet, I can see him covering bigger slot WRs & TEs with success.

These threads are always fun to bump once guys are given adequate time to develop.

Maybe give these young guys another year or two... Just a thought

Wild idea, I know.

Stingley and ricks - yes
Dlott, ward, mcglotherb are not. None of them have shown ability to be worth a championship defense.

This is the norm for young corners, you are spoiled by what Stingley and Patrick Peterson in the past. The jump to the next level for most takes a year or to in the college game. Two to 3 of the guys you’re pointing now, will be light years better by the time they go pro.

re: Lsu needs corners in this class badly
I agree that Ward and Flott will continue to improve and be better down the line but they're playing now and costing us now. No matter how you look at it they aren't good now and that's all that matters this season. Whether they should be playing or not may not be their fault but it has to be someone's. But of course Corey Raymond is beyond reproach to our fanbase. Our depth issues, mishandling of numbers and lack of improvement is squarely on Raymond. Pelini is the easy scapegoat(as usual when anyone talks negatively about Raymond) but it's not the guys he's coaching specifically getting beat man to man down the field. Raymond's mishandling of the depth is what forced us to take Ward, Flott and Jones all together and forced to play so young. It was seen as soon as we missed on Surtain. Hence Terrance Alexander.
Regardless of any of it, coming into the season we all thought we were good at cb. Vincent opting out hurt and changed things but most of us were expecting Flott to be better at least. Some Ward as well. I haven't seen anything that convinces me we are "set" for next year. Stingley and Ricks will be fine but they aren't the ones being picked on even now. It's the 3rd and 4th guy and that's not stopping until the guys on the field make opponents pay for it. Better S play would also help tremendously. Raymond and Bush need to tighten up.

If they were recruited as projects, so be it. Then they shouldn’t be on the field this early. They are not SEC caliber guys right now at CB. Ricks looks leagues ahead of Flott and Ward.

re: Lsu needs corners in this class badly
I do agree, but changing defenses hurt us in recruiting this past cycle, if we can get Smith and Foreman we will be ok also, pressure on the QB always helps a decent corner compared to leaving a elite corner on a island, as much as I hate to admit it, if we make strides on defense in the rest of this season, Bo will be back and will start to put his own schemes in and guys who fit, we will be fine, we are LSU Baby!!

How many starting caliber CB’s do you think teams have?

It was a low risk take. The scholarship was unused and school was starting.

Evans could also come back for another rear with a full offseason at LSU and be much improved.

Lsufanva. Some of the db issues are on coaching Raymond and Bush both along with Pelini.

Imo the roster mgt/numbers issue is more on Coach O than Raymond.
It was Coach O's decision to only "sign" 1 cb the Surtain year. Raymond wanted Goodrich and Surtain.

There is plenty of blame to go around for the entire defensive staff and Coach O.

People aren’t talking about this much because O was lucky to hit on Burrow

But we’ve burned some precious scholarships on 1-yr players that just straight up sucked. Alexander, Shanihan, Nichols St kid etc

With scholarship restrictions coming for the program it will be interesting to see how much longer he can afford to burn a 4-5 year roster spot on a 1-yr stop gap, especially when most of these 1-yr kids are just bad insurance policies or poor contributors

re: Lsu needs corners in this class badly
Totally disagree.

We’ve had some very solid grad transfers. And HS signees leave after one year or bust frequently. Grad transfer recruiting his here to stay, along with undergrad transfers with the new rules.

Shanahan is starting and may return for another year. Evans as well. A complete off season would do wonders for both.

As long as they hit. If not, you just burned a 4-yr spot on a 1-yr stop gap

Again, our numbers are down already and will only get worse with restrictions on number of kids we can sign due to self imposed penalties

He can’t gain talent in a year. He’s a small Ivy League level player who frequently gets blown off the ball by average sec interior Dlinemen

Idk ward made 2 big plays at the end of the game to seal it for us. Young talented guys will be inconsistent, make mistakes but show flashes and that is what ward and a few others have shown IMO. Harris played his best game but safety is still a weak link and it seems to be addressed pretty well with the 1st and 2nd highest ranked recruit at that position with a couple diamond in the rough types also. I think our secondary will be good again soon.

re: Lsu needs corners in this class badly
McGlothern will be really good and in my opinion needs to play the rest of the season and get the coverage snaps to be ready for next year. I think stingley and ricks should play outside in base and in nickel Mcglothern needs to come in on the outside and move stingley around to keep him active and engaged. I'd even let stingley blitz from the nickle spot.
