re: LSU Gymnastics Recruiting Thread and Information
Playing hypotheticals again, this time with bars.

Let’s say Kai, Kiya, Sami, and Alyona are locks. You have Haleigh who sometimes takes steps on her double front dismount and is sometimes short on her bail. Dunne often has short-ish handstands, loose legs on her pak, and her DLO dismount needs work. Elena’s bars have improved over the years, and she has a ton of skills to choose from. Bridget has major form issues and leg separations. Bailey also has form issues and leg separations. Chase had a nice routine in JO but has small form issues as well.

Who gets the final two bars spots?

Thought this was supposed to be a recruiting threat. Where is the recruiting news? Kinda sparse.

I doubt they’ll be any news until school starts back. Kids can’t make visits to empty campuses.

Last two spots will be between Dunne, Bryant and Arenas. Arenas is the best bars worker of the group IMO. Dunne and Bryant are strong here too but my concern with Dunne is she doesn't have a dismount that Jay typically wants (E skill dismounts), in general she is really clean with the overall routine.

Bryant can be really good on bars but has to clean up the bail to handstand. Her dismount is super hard but. She trains that dismount with.the added half twist, which would be easier to stick. I didn't like her routine composition as a senior, they changed it from her junior year.

Its critical that Jay corrects Alyona's routine and we get Kai back on track on bars. There is absolutely no lack of talent or ability to be a great bars team next year.

Kids can't take visits right now although Jay is video chatting with recruits and club coaches to keep in contact and maintain relationships. We will start to be putting together the 2022 class this coming fall. Lilly was our lone commit before the recruiting rules came into place.

Bryant is a lock. She has the Kyla Ross-style super short and efficient routine that can go 9.9+ with a stuck dismount.

Dunne would be a great lead-off choice IMO. Clean and no unnecessary skills. If the coaches force her to do a mediocre E dismount over a clean 1/1-double tuck, then it's really time for some fresh blood in the coaching line-up.

I wasn't impressed by Rivers on bars this season. Laboured and tons of form issues. And she's doing a completely unnecessary giant 1/1 before her Tkatchev. Why??? In fact, she doesn't even need the Tkatchev to get a 10 start value. I guarantee her score will go up if she just does the same routine as Kyla Ross. Again, poor coaching decisions...

If Arenas proves to have higher scoring potential, I'd put her in the line-up over Rivers.

It bodes well for us if we don't have to use Dean and Ferrer on bars again.

I feel the same way. I don’t recall Kai having some of these form issues before competing at LSU. Bars was actually one of her best events at JOs, watch her 2019 routines and compare it to 2020. Everything looked labored and just not smooth for some reason.

One issue is LSU recycles exact routines from JOs for most kids. They may take something out but in general they keep the same skills.

I don’t understand why jay forces messy E skill dismounts. Bridget Dean is another one who has a very rough double layout that gets hammered for separation and knees bent

Looks like Kaytlyn Johnson had another ankle surgery, this time to correct the first surgery. Wishing her a full recovery.

I think Kai was more injured than the coaches let on. Kai said in an interview that her ankle hurts every day but adrenaline gets her through. You also have to take into account that she had limited fall training, especially on her dismounts. And she had ankle problems her last year of J.O. In college you are limited to the number of reps, which could possibly be the reason she never got into the swing of things on bars.

As expected no US championships this year, no big competitions will be completed until 2021.

Anyone know Ferrer's status - I heard some rumblings about her maybe transferring (though this was a while back) and it appears she has taken LSU gym out of her social media profile.

If so, maybe some our LSU fans need to take an introspective view of how they treat young athletes on this board, especially ones who are dealing with some very personal matters.

Woah-don’t know any of the girls personally but I’m shocked. What schools is she considering?

The gymnast referred to as potentially considering transferring out of the program.

I believe twz knows WHO, but not WHERE. Asking which schools, if I read correctly.

re: LSU Gymnastics Recruiting Thread and Information
This recruiting thread is starting to get messy. I don't think Ferrer (if she wants to transfer) would be transferring based on a couple of random comments on TD. For the record, I have not seen anything said bad about her. We are all rooting for her to get over the hurdle she was thrown within the last year. Her health should come first and Im glad she took the time to address these issues.

I will be making a new thread soon as this is getting really long.

Back to recruiting. There is a lot of young talent and 2022 kids to keep an eye on moving forward. The 2022 class will likely not be very big. The roster has been somewhat thrown off recently due to kids coming in a year early. I think adding Selena Harris and potentially another elite or top level 10 gymnast would be ideal for the 2022 class. This does not include walk on's who will likely also be added later in the process.

Some recruits to continue to watch include:

- Selena Harris (Top level 10 gymnast and NL Cup participant)
-Miranda Smith (WVU commit)
- Ciena Alipio (current junior national team member)
-Konnor McClain (current junior national team member)
-Addison Fatta (Junior elite- comes from Trinity's gym)

Now there are some level 10 kids from Texas Dreams, Georgie elite and Everest that are showing promise that could be potential major projects in the future.

I know I talked about JaFree Scott before in the past but have not heard a whole lot about her recruitment in a while. She had been battling injuries within the last year but use to be a national team member. I still believe she would be a great addition for a top college program.

Leanne Wong continues to keep her recruitment on DL. Not much has changed on that front. LSU obviously would love to have her.

Not having camps sorta sucks because its a chance for coaches to evaluate kids and to get future recruits onto campus. They are hoping get the gymnasts back onto campus at some point this summer but there may be restrictions on how training can work. Current focus is overall health.and conditioning/strengthening workouts at home.

Possibly Nebraska Arkansas or Auburn? I feel Kentucky would be a pretty solid fit as well. They take very solid gymnasts and field very strong teams, they just don't have all the "flash" recruits.

Jordyn is looking for transfers right now.

Thanks for the info. Yeah Nebraska and Arkansas came to mind. Nebraska has a lot of girls leaving for unknown reasons. Is LSU pursuing any incoming transfers? Dickson from Georgia and de Jesus from Nebraska are great catches wherever they land.

Not that I'm aware of right now. Only possible thing I could see is one of 2021 recruits coming up a year early but if LSU were to do that, the athlete has to be very healthy and ready to compete immediately. I see no point in wasting a year if they can't be a significant contributor. Tori Tatum has been alluded to but it comes down to how we feel about the roster next year. Personally I think the freshmen class and getting Kai/Alyona back healthy makes a world of difference for the outlook of the team next season. Our freshmen class minus Kiya Johnson did not come close to giving us what we were expecting due to all the injuries.

That said, if Bailey leaves (which looks very probable) and with Caitlin Smith being an unknown for the future, that is 2 scholarships on the table not producing. I think we can survive next season without bringing kids up early but the success comes down to keeping people healthy. Its critical LSU gets Kai Rivers back to where she was before because that is an athlete LSU is counting on for big scores on 2-3 events. Again, I cannot stress how imperative it is that we go to the drawing board with some of our routines and address some of the construction issues. When you look at 2 or 3 events worth of issues with construction, those .05 differences in individual routines all add up...

Not sure how y'all feel about this, but for me.... I felt LSU rushed Alyona along because we needed her bars although I really would have loved to seen her freshmen year actually healthy. She only did bars really this year and she was given a poorly constructed routine coming off a major injury. I felt we sorta wasted her freshmen season instead of letting her take the year off so she can get healthy and build up for the following season. We essentially exhausted one year of eligibility for her to throw out a poorly constructed bars routine during a season with no post season.
