I was torn on that proposal. I think it would just make the top teams even further ahead of the others. Imagine if UCLA could add two more elites to their roster? Same for Florida. It would eventually lock the same 2-3 teams into recruiting all the best. Not that having elites is everything but if you can get them in healthy it certainly helps.

Maybe not , though. With only 24 spots each meet it might be difficult to get the elite gymnasts to sign and wait 2 to 3 years to play a big role when ehy can be the top gymnast at other than a blue blood. The biggerimpact might be in getting tansfers and graduate gymnasts who might only be a one event star like Erin Macadegh. Too bad the proposal failed . Guess thenon particaiating schools voted it down.

Does anyone know how the summer works as far as training is concerned? Kai mentioned that she’ll be on campus early this month. Is she just going to get acquainted with college life? And are any of the incoming freshman coming early as well?

In other news, Bailie Key announced her retirement from gymnastics this past week. I can't stand this for such a talented athlete, but it also makes me think, "what might have been." I really feel one of the most amazing things about our program is our training and medical team - it's beyond world class! Looking back at the success we've had rehabilitating athletes, it just makes me wonder if Bailie's gymnastics career would have ended differently had she come to LSU. Completely hypothetical, but still wanted to take the time to give a shout out to our trainers! I'm proud of the work they do!!

I felt bad for her. Shame she never got to continue her gymnastics but she made the right decision with her health. Kudos to Danna Duckworth for not putting her in a bad position where things really could have gone bad had she been encouraged to still compete. She was a wonderful gymnast and accomplished a lot as an elite. Hard to believe 2015 was the last time we would ever see her compete multiple events in gymnastics ever again.

I’m so happy! With the loss of Edney and Harrold on bars in a year, Alyona can fill that role.

I’m sure she was told to wait for the announcement or something. Can’t imagine she changed her mind that quickly. It was added and removed the same day.

A lot of other gym fans aren't happy about her possibly going to LSU I notice

Mainly the OU, Florida and UCLA fans. Speaking of OU, Ragan Smith might be heading to OU this fall. She has had difficult time with her elite training at Texas dreams as of late with her injuries.

So, is Alyona a secret commit?

Also, big fan of Ragan Smith. Wish her the best at OU, but seems she has done long term damage to her ankle.

I was told months ago that she indicated to LSU that she will be coming to BR. She came in for another visit late during the season. She has been texting with the LSU girls and commits. Came and hung out with the LSU girls at nationals and cheered on LSU in the LSU section.

Started following a bunch of LSU's football athletes over the last week, not that it means anything but everything has pointed to LSU. Just no official announcement from her, except the LSU tease on the Instagram page last night. Probably removed it because she has not made an official announcement. Just weird to put it up there before doing so.

Wiki is always ahead of the curve

I am still not sure she wants to go for the 2020 olympics. I personally don't think she has a shot. Especially with kids like Hurd, Wong, Dicello, McCusker, Biles, Sunisa Lee, Eaker, Jade Carey, Shelise Jones all ahead of her. Only way I could see her going is as a specialist but her current bar work and not having a "dominant" 2nd event takes her out of that position. I heard that she is having a more difficult time with the elite training regimen on her body.

She just graduated, she could come in during the fall but it completely depends if she wants to try to go for the olympics, which IMO is a long shot.

What I heard was she will compete this summer and depending how things go, she will decide if she wants to go to college early or try for the olympics next year. As far as I am aware, there is a scholarship open for her if she were to come in this fall.

DD just went on a recruiting trip up and I'm wondering if Alyona was specifically the one she went to see the other week. Anyways, if LSU were to add Alyona, that would help tremendously with depth. She has stuff to clean up, but with the correct selection of skills she would be able to help us immediately on bars, vault and beam. Floor she has work to do but I think her coaches do a horrific job when it comes to the composition of her elite routines. They force her to do stuff she has no business doing.

Just wondering if Alyona was to come in the fall (although it seems like she’ll defer), how would the scholarship count look?

Right now the roster is as follows:

Edney
Harrold
Kirby

Durante (I believe walk-on)
Desederio
Dean
Campbell
Gunter (not sure if she’s on scholarship)
Edwards

Ferrer
D’Antonio (walk-on)

Ryan
Johnson
Rivers
Smith
Goodrich (walk on)

Does LSU have a scholarship available? I know the limit is 12 and I think they’re at it.
