re: LSU Basketball 2020 (and Beyond) Recruiting Thread
If we are going on NBA projections, this season Days will need to show that he can play the 3 and 4; Watford will be doing the same. They both have the athleticism and skillset to do so.

LINK - (Days' Season Highlights)

Days is a very undersized hybrid-stretch 4. He does have somewhat of a post-game, but he's not a pure back to the basket kind of post guy. He has wonderful athleticism, but there are extremely few 6'6 PFs in the NBA. Days models his game after Draymond Green and exhibits an abundance of intensity, shiftiness, and high basketball IQ, which are certainly beneficial for him at his size. Days would need to be prolific on the inside for more teams to consider taking him at the 4. But it also depends on which teams are looking at him. In college, he's fine playing there especially when Wade runs a positionless lineup and players shift around. With also the sheer fact that some teams don't have an extreme amount of height as well.

From a recruiting standpoint, we need to really start getting our players into the NBA as picks. So showing that our players are extremely versatile can help in that sense. I'm not saying Days needs to start at the 3. He just needs to better show that he can play at that spot. Watford should hover between the 3 and 4. I will have to rework my starting lineup projections to indicate some of this. But you are right Watford will play a good bit at the 3, especially if he has improved his ball-handling and can take the ball upcourt. I just really like Watford at the 4 spot. He'd be closer to the basket and he has a very refined inside game. It would also allow him to step out and knock down threes to stretch the defense. If we have Watford purely at the wing, we will lose a bit of our offensive rebounding production. Days is a great offensive rebounder, but may struggle at times against taller guys.

This was all to say that Coach Wade will figure everything out, that's why he's the head coach and I'm not. But I do enjoy the discussions.

I agree that it would be great for Days’s stock if he could play the 3 (and I would love for him to prove me wrong), I just don’t see him being quick enough especially laterally to guard other 3’s. And his height is his beg knock for playing in the NBA. I only see him as a stretch 4 off the bench at best on the next level. It’s going to be interesting to see who starts games and plays a lot in the post for us this year.

Extremely solid take. The only reason I'm even preaching Days at the 3 is because I read this article: LINK / a few days ago (the article is about Days testing the draft). Albeit the article gives no indication that Days has any intention to play the 3, I'm going off a snippet of a quote he said. He seems very pleased with the feedback he got during the NBA draft process, and the fact that he is working on his body and slimming down has me thinking in this regard. If he truly got a trainer and is getting in better shape, he might be agile and athletic enough to now guard that 3 spot as well as handle the 4.

As long as Watford and Days get a decent amount of playing time we will be successful. However, I have an odd feeling that Wade will really try to differentiate the roles per position this season. That's the only reason why I'm making a deal about any of this, in years past the 3 and the 4 schematically did similar things. If you watch Days's last season highlight tape you will even see Charles Manning at the 3 and him being down low as if he were a 4. At this point, I feel that the consensus is right and that Days will most likely be the 4. I just think if he demonstrates that he can play the 3 and be effective it would raise his draft stock quite a bit. I know Houston is very interested in him, because of his offensive efficiency rating and he'd be perfect for their small-ball lineup scheme.

Just b/c he plays the 3 offensively doesn't mean he has to necessarily guard the 3.

Hell, when I played basketball I played the 1/2; but guarded 1-4 most of the time b/c I had the ability and size to be able to.

Days' issue defensively is just that there is no great spot for him based on his skill-set. He is not quick enough to guard the 3 (and especially not any guard) and he generally isn't big enough (height or strength) to guard the 4/5 on most teams. I'm okay with him on a 4 more times than not b/c he can generally get away with it a little more there, especially if you have someone to help him in the lane; but I also like it b/c it generally keeps him around the basket more for rebounding purposes, which he is good at.

I have to disagree on the idea he isn’t strong enough. His height could lead him to struggles against bigger 4/5’s but he has the bulk and strength to hold his ground with just about anybody in college.

Yeah, I think Days has proven he’s plenty strong to guard the 4 and 5, just not y’all enough to be a true “rim protector “. I think for college he’s a heck of a stretch 4, cam play the 5 in a pinch, but has no business at the 3.

Brandon Murray (guard from IMG) is committing tomorrow night. All signs point towards LSU, as Auburn got in a little too late.

This is very exciting. I have a feeling that Wade will string together quite a few top-10 classes. Or classes that might have an upper ranking, but have a serviceable amount of talented incoming transfers.

Just watched the latest highlight video I could find on Alex Fudge. We're supposed to be in good shape with him. The kid is athletic, can jump, hit the three, block shots, drive and dunk, finish in transition. Versatile and skilled. Needs to add muscle.

Alex Fudge highlights

I hope that Wade and the staff get it done. Alex Fudge looks like the real deal and is the type of true SF that would really help us, with that length, athleticism, and frame. He will certainly be able to add about 15-20 pounds of muscle to his frame, if not more.

Upodated 2021-2022 projected roster and projected 2021 class. Looking like we will have 4 spots for the 2021 class unless someone transfers or unexpectedly leaves/stays.

re: LSU Basketball 2020 (and Beyond) Recruiting Thread
Does anyone know how many prospects we can take this recruiting cycle? Are we truly in a good spot to land Fudge and Jabari Smith Jr.? I try to keep up with basketball recruiting as best as I can. However, I don't have some of the insider knowledge that some of you have. Why is it that every recruit is Warm to our rivals on 247sports? It's quite infuriating. Is there a particular site or place that I can find more in terms of information, who the coaches are looking at or offering so that I could readily bring it back here for us all.

re: LSU Basketball 2020 (and Beyond) Recruiting Thread
Regarding how many we can sign in 2021, it depends on who leaves early. I'm thinking Watford and Smart definitely go and that Thomas has a really good freshman season and goes, too. Days could go either way. And Manning is a senior. So, that's 4-5 spots, outside of any additional attrition that might occur.

Right now, we have Culbert, Murray, and Ezewiro. We're supposed to be in really good shape with Fudge. And now we're getting some picks to land JD Davison. I'm getting pretty excited about the possibilities of this class. Culbert is a high four star. Fudge is a national top 50 player. Murray's video and recent articles about him convince me he should be rated much higher. And Davison is a five star.
