Didn’t Wabash pick up 10 D1 guys from the portal. That team will be loaded and lots to pick from next year for D1 schools unless these kids are just eyeing the draft

They picked up transfers from North Carolina, Michigan, Coastal Carolina, among others. It was double digit D1 bouncebacks.

They also picked up some guys that were committed to D1 schools but signed with them instead. They are insanely loaded.

The NJCAA just put out a release that states that the 2021 baseball season will not count toward anyone's eligibility. So we could get Jobert on campus as a freshman that has already played two years.

re: LSU Baseball 2021 (and beyond) Recruiting Thread
I'm in the process of aggregating all of the SEC rosters into one place (I have weird hobbies, don't judge me). I'm not done, because about 6 schools haven't posted updated rosters yet, but I have found a few more players that would have been expected to be on campus for three years that will be draft eligible after 2 years. All three of them are at Ole Miss.

2B Peyton Chatagnier (hit 4 HRs in shortened season)
RHP Drew McDaniel (from STM in Lafayette, throws 95)
OF Jerrion Ealy (also a really good running back)

All three are only within the draft cutoff because it was pushed back. As mentioned before, our only player affected is Alex Milazzo.

Oddly enough, Jud Fabian (OF - Florida) is younger than all of the players mentioned so far but will be eligible for the draft as he graduated early and is in his third year on campus.

Another 2021 summer placement: Incoming freshman Brant Smith will be playing with Augustus Milligan in the South Florida League. Both will be on the Delray Beach Lightning.

I wonder if these Florida summer leagues become a lot more popular than some of the other long time leagues like the Cape

Or will the Cape continue to be the gold standard for top prospects?

re: LSU Baseball 2021 (and beyond) Recruiting Thread
I think, or at least hope, the Cape will still be the gold standard.

MLB is now looking at turning another minor league (the NY-Penn league) into a wooden bat league. What they envision is breakdown like this:

Incoming Freshmen and rising sophomores - Appy League
Rising Juniors (last year before draft eligibility) - Cape Cod league
Rising Seniors (draft eligible, but before draft takes place) - NY-Penn League

I'm still skeptical of how it's going to work out. There has already been a dearth of pitching and there are a ton of leagues that are seemingly adding teams every year.

I guess with a smaller draft leading to more guys playing college baseball and for longer, the player pool increases, but that still won't make college coaches all that keen on sending out their best pitchers to throw all summer after throwing all season.

The Cape Cod League offers geographical advantages no other league could offer. All the teams are packed so closely together, it's a scouts dream. The Florida leagues will be affected by the Appy League, as will the Prospect League, the Northwoods League, the Valley League, the Coastal Plain League, and the NECBL, among others.

In the Wabash Valley Fall Series Game 1, Jason Bollman went 5 innings, struck out 10, walked 3, 1 hit, no runs. 67 total pitches, 43 strikes.

re: LSU Baseball 2021 (and beyond) Recruiting Thread
Today is the start of the early signing period. LSU pretty much never acknowledges who signs right now, they usually wait until August to do that. But I will update this post with anything I see on twitter about guys signing their LOI.

ETA: Here is the running list of guys I've seen so far -

- Sammy Dutton
- Josh Pearson
- Brayden Jobert
- Grant Taylor
- Carter Jensen
- Brant Smith
- Luke Leto
- Jason Bollman
- Brennan Holt

Nolan Cain usually announces class at the next coaches committee meeting but due to COVID they haven't been having them.
He talks about who is the high draft risks in the class as well.
They usually don't do anything public though.

That would be a cool meeting to attend.

I mentioned this in a thread on the Rant, but it needs to be in this thread as well. The roster cap for next season is expected to be 40. It will go like this:

2021 - Unlimited
2022 - 40
2023 - 38
2024 - 35

At this point we are at 54/40 for next season. We will have roughly 25 players with at least some draft risk, depending on how long the draft is. I don't think we are finished recruiting for next year.

re: LSU Baseball 2021 (and beyond) Recruiting Thread
We have a top 5 class according to Perfect Game and Baseball America. Perfect Game only shows the HS commits. Our class is top 5 with only 13 HS players, compared to the other classes around us with 17, 18, 19 guys or more. The only team with a higher average player rating is Vanderbilt.
