re: LSU Baseball 2020 (and beyond) Recruiting Thread
I've been reviewing the D1Baseball transfer tracker each time they update to see if there are any interesting names out there. Today, a guy I'd been tracking after a monster Northwoods League season in 2019, Andrew Benefield from Louisville, hit the portal.

He redshirted as a freshman at Louisville then went to the Northwoods league and tore it up. He was playing his RSFR season in 2020.

Slashed .304/.437/.473 with 9 HRs in summer wood bat league. This season he had played in 12 games for Louisville and was hitting .286 with 3 doubles.

I don't know if we're looking for transfers, but he's a guy that can play all over the infield but primarily the corners. He's 6'4" 195, obviously has game power if he hit 9 HRs in a wood bat summer league.

Today I was looking up the stats of a Kansas player that entered the portal yesterday and I learned that Manny Miles was playing baseball for Kansas this season. He only pitched a third of an inning, but still that's pretty cool.

Umped a few of his games in HS and he was good, but didn't think he was BIG XII good. That's pretty cool.

Sounds like someone needs to nudge Nolan Cain about Louisville guy if he's not already on it.

I do not envy the collegiate baseball coach's and the conversations they will all have to make to cull schollies to accommodate returning SRs and incoming FR

I think Willis, Gunter, Biggs might be next
Lagarigue will likely lose his spot as walk-on

We picked up a walk on LHP from Lower Columbia college in Washington. Alex Brady committed a couple days ago. Played at the juco the Eddie Smith used to coach at. From what I’ve read on Twitter he’s coming in to compete for a roster spot. I will add him to the least tomorrow. I don’t know anything about him but I will look up his NWAC stats and any measurables I can find.

re: LSU Baseball 2020 (and beyond) Recruiting Thread
In 31 innings in NWAC JUCO baseball over 2 seasons (NWAC is the JUCO league that encompasses Oregon and Washington), Brady struck out 38 and walked 14. In this most recent abbreviated season he had struck out 9 and walked 2 in 7 innings. He only gave up 4 earned runs in those 31 innings. He had a WHIP of just over 1 for his career there.

I can't find anything on how hard he throws or anything like that. He's 5'9", 155.

In other transfer news, we may be in on a RHP/MIF transferring from a Missouri Valley Conference school. Highly touted prospect out of HS. ETA: Mason Auer is the player, he was in this mornings update of the transfer portal this morning. He is at Missouri State. Perfect Game had him ranked as the 37th best incoming freshman in the country. He touches 96, but sits 92-95. It looks like he's also considering a few JUCOs.

The Louisville transfer that I like is probably headed to an SEC east school. It doesn't look like we were on him.

With expanded rosters I don’t know how many Walk ons have a chance to make it but it is a non scholarship player that would not count against 27 counters assuming someone like hasty would look for a better opportunity maybe that’s what they are guarding against
How are schools going to part with this years signing class? If they decide to move on from any of those players

I know a lot of people are expecting a flood to the JUCO ranks but it hasn't really started happening yet.

I've seen three JUCO flips since the relief announcement was made, a Florida commit and a Miami commit are going to Wabash Valley, and a Michigan State commit is now going to Iowa Western.

Those all could also be draft moves as well, not completely related to the relief announcement, as those are a couple of heavily scouted and usually very talented JUCO programs.

I think you will see a lot of h.S. draft prospects that aren't high academic kids go JUCO. This way they can be draft eligible as soon as the MLB loosens back up next year to up to 20 rounds. The higher academic kids will stick with their commitments. A lot of recruited walk ons are going to get pushed out of a roster spot this year and will have to redshirt (greyshirt?) or go JUCO.

25 should be the max for the draft
MLB is trying to reorganize minor league baseball and they will shorten draft

Ive seen some MLB pundits say that this could affect the draft for a total of 3 years.

I don’t agree with that assessment but it’s certainly a possibility.

There’s not going to be a sensible solution any time soon. Everyone is too wired up and freaked out

Jacob Hasty and Mitchell Sanford are now on the Danville Dans roster with Will Safford. Summer League assignments have become even more difficult to track now with leagues cancelling or delaying their seasons.

LSU commit Brooks Rice will be pitching in the newly formed Mississippi Collegiate League. One of two new leagues in the state of Mississippi going on this summer.

Yep, the MLB wants less teams and players they have to pay for in the minors. This just gives them an excuse to start it this year and next with shortened drafts.

Thought for sure he'd end up at KSU with his father. Solid choice otherwise.

A JUCO catcher we were evaluating earlier, Leyton Pinkney from Northwest Florida State, committed to Houston today. I don't know how heavily we were still recruiting him.

Project, if you ever have time, I have a huge favor to ask.

Would you possibly be able to give your opinion on the ratings of these recruits, using the 20-40-60-80 scale for speed, contact, power, fielding (compared to other college players). Also their projected position (even if it's just your opinion). If they are a pitcher, if you would expect them to be a starter or relief pitcher. Also, the players who you think have the greatest potential from the bunch.

I'm working on creating them on a baseball game and would need that info to come up with the ratings.
