I’m curious about what happens with all our HS catchers as well. I expected Torres and Travinski to be big draft risks but I haven’t seen any list that would make me believe they are likely gone. Somebody, maybe even a few of our current roster or signees will have to be processed at that position. Can’t carry 6 catchers

Good thing weight doesn't correlate to talent...

They are also 16-17 years old. Not unthinkable to believe they are not done growing.

It's also not unthinkable that the heights and weights captured in the first few post of this thread haven't been updated since the players first committed because everything has been copied and pasted for efficiency.

It's actually so not unthinkable that it's exactly what has happened.

That’s what I’m thinking.

It would be unthinkable and a huge get to keep 1 of Espino, Hampton, and Hinds.

It would be great to get 3-4 of Travinksi, Doughty, Cairo, Torres, Phillips, and Lewis.

If anyone is drafted by the Diamondbacks don’t for a second get your hopes up, they have an ungodly amount of money this draft.

Damn I thought our chances were slightly better with Hampton at least. Judging by the feedback on Hinds and espino they’re almost certainly gone

Hampton could very well slide but there’s nothing concrete being reported if he’s firm to stick to a number and tell teams no.

I want 'em all lol but realistically IMO Travinski has to be in that mix especially because of his position (C)of gets!!! Kid can rake and has a very good arm.

Does anyone have a list of the state’s prospect taking? I’m curious to see where these fielders not names Hinds, Cairo and Doughty stack up.

I'm on vacation until next Sunday, so I won't be posting any recruiting or draft news until day 1 of the draft. As always, I invite anyone who wants to join in the news gathering.

MLB.com released their top 200 draft ranks and doughty and Phillips were the only 2 recruits added that were not previously on the top 100. Kinda interesting that none of the catchers are ranked

The Athletic came out with another first round mock draft today. Here are the LSU guys they have listed coming out in the first:

quote:

No. 29: Oakland Athletics Daniel Espino, RHP, Georgia Premier Academy The last time the A’s selected a high school pitcher with their first overall pick was in 2006, when they chose Trevor Cahill in the second round (they didn’t have a first-round pick that season). While they don’t have a history with high school arms this high, that doesn’t mean they don’t scout them carefully, and they like to take risks on high-upside players when they are this low in the first round. Espino has a big ceiling with his upper-90s fastball and two well-developed secondary offerings. Espino has a starter’s frame and more polish than most high school arms. With the A’s focusing on position players early in the past two drafts, Espino will bolster the pitching side of their system.

quote:

No. 31: Los Angeles Dodgers Maurice Hampton, OF, Memphis University School This is the choice the Dodgers received when they did not sign their first-round pick last year. They could use the slot money that comes with this pick to pounce on a talented player who has slipped to their earlier spot because of bonus concerns, or they could draft a player who fits into this region of the draft. Hampton would be the latter. The high school outfielder is an elite athlete who is also a four-star recruit as a cornerback, committed to Louisiana State. You might remember the Dodgers parted with their biggest bonus ever to pry an athlete, Zach Lee, from a football scholarship to LSU. Hampton would not need to surpass Lee’s $5.25 million figure.

There are probably half a dozen current draft boards out there and all have solidified enough to have Espino as mid to late 20's pick, Mo Hampton in 30's and Rece Hinds not far behind that. That's late first round to starting second round range. At those slot values, highly unlikely we will see them at LSU - no news there.

I’ve seen a enough with Lewis on them to believe he’s unlikely to make it here as well.

I know I said I would be updating anything while on vacation, but LSU will have like 4 players on the Gaithersburg Giants this summer.

Braden Doughty, Cade Doughty, Ray Torres, and Riggs Threadgill.

Weirdly, no one has shown up on a Northwoods League roster yet. That may be where CJ Willis goes, I haven't found his spot yet.

Like to see us shut down our starting pitching for the summer and just let the guys that need the work like Ripol, Gunther, and Threadgill (sorry for any misspelling) to get the experience this summer.

25. Dodgers – Daniel Espino, RHP, Premier Academy HS (GA) We also have them with Brennan Malone here and Stanford OF Kyle Stowers at their next pick. We doubt they’d do two prep pitchers, though. We’re told Espino threw privately for the Dodgers recently. El Paso high school SS David Hernaiz may be an early day two target.

I've already conceded that Espino is gone, so I've been hoping that the cardinals would jump on him. He played on team Panama with a cardinals minor league catcher. They're about the same age but the catcher is in his 4th year in pro ball, ha.

Eta: it was in a tournament that Lsu had a commit pitching for Canada and two commits playing for the us.
