LSU picked up a commitment from JUCO lefty Brandon Kaminer of Wallace-Dothan CC in Alabama today. He will come in as a Junior. Twitter

Kaminer was originally committed to Miami in the 2017 class. He went to Florida Southwestern for his freshman year and Wallace Dothan his sophomore year.

Per this article he's up to 93: Dothan Eagle

quote:

So far, Kaminer has help lead the Govs to a first place tie in the Southern Division of the ACCC. He has pitched 41 innings — the most on the team — and has an earned run average of 2.85 with 46 strikeouts and only five walks. That’s just part of what the LSU Tigers saw in him.

“I like my fastball (which has been clocked at 93 mph),” Kaminer said. “But I also like my cutter. LSU has a shortage of left handed pitchers and I should fit right in. They told me they are going to throw me in the mix right away. They are looking at me possibly being a starter, maybe even a Friday night guy.”

Well thats sort of a surprising recruiting pitch, considering the freshmen we have now and how well they have performed.

Hey Project in your opinion what are the chances of LSU getting both C's Torres & Travinski to campus?

Lsu picked up a 2021 commit from live oak today. Saw it on Twitter, will update more later.

ETA: Brant Smith is a corner infielder from Live Oak. 2021 left handed batter. Big kid at 6'1" 215.

How does Craig Rathjen’s son sign with Texas? Did we even recruit him? Craig was a really good football player for us in the 80’s and loves LSU.

ETA. They never heard from LSU, making this Craig’s fourth D-1 athlete to not hear from LSU. IMO, we could be better at this. Even if they aren’t what we need sometimes.

We currently have like 4 LSU legacies on the roster. We can't take all of them.

Project, I’ve been a lurker on the board for a while and I just wanted to ask your opinion on who, of the current 2019 commits, makes it to campus? Or is it too early to tell? I appreciate you bringing all your knowledge to the board.

It's too early to tell on most of them.

Daniel Espino was invited to the draft by the MLB Network. It's safe to assume he won't be in this class.

Maurice Hampton's dad recently came out and said that if he's drafted in the first round, he may sign. But if he goes later than that he will probably be at LSU. You can't read a lot into that because there are opportunities for some teams to pay way more for their second round picks than others can pay for their first rounders.

Thanks, P! Hope we can lure Doughty, Travinsky, Hampton, and Philips the most.

While true couldn’t this also make for a Bregman type situation where he fell way down in the draft because he made it known that it was 1st round or college?

I’m not near as familiar with the draft process as you so I could be completely off base but this sounds like great news to me

He's been dropping on FanGraph's rankings. They say the question is about his hit tool long term. He's dropped to somewhere in the 60s though, so it's still a good bet that he signs with whoever drafts him.

Just to pitch-in from monitoring his stats on MaxPreps. He is now at IMG and is having a good, not great, season. His K rate is rather high for a prospect, 17 K in 73 official ABs (23%). Especially when you compare it to his teammates (many are also high-end prospects). Hope he makes it to LSU.

Some 2020 news: The new MLB PDP league has started selecting players for the 80 man roster. The league will take place over the summer at IMG Academy. I think it goes for 4 weeks, it might be 6. It's a way for the top players in the country to receive high quality coaching, get scouted by MLB scouts, and play against each other in a learning environment, but without the costs of travel ball.

Dylan Crews was the first LSU commit selected to attend. I would expect a few others to be invited. Crews is already considered one of the top high school bats in his class and should be considered a long shot to get to campus.
