Christian Cairo was mentioned by Baseball America as one of the 10 players to raise their stock the most in Jupiter: LINK

quote:

Similar to Volpe, Cairo is an undersized infielder who handles the shortstop position well and has no true holes in his game, but no huge tools to project on either. His arm strength grades out a tick better than Volpe, but the two have been compared throughout the summer and will likely continue to be mentioned in the same conversations as teams get closer to draft day.

"He has actions at shortstop and can hit," said one area scout. "Easy 55 arm and knows how to play the game."

Cairo is athletic and possesses some twitchy quickness if not blazing speed, and scouts rave about his defensive instincts in the middle of the infield. Playing for powerhouse Calvary Christian High in Clearwater, Fla., Cairo could be a tough sign as an undersized player committed to Louisiana State, but—like Volpe—is making the decision tougher on scouting departments with his performance at big events.

Former LSU pitcher Matt Schroer, who left the team right before opening day last season, has wound up at Gateway CC in Arizona. I assume he will be a redshirt freshman this season. He did not pitch anywhere last season after leaving LSU.

Farmer Abendroth didn't make the grades to stay enrolled at IMG.

Not sure what that does for his commitment to LSU

Unless it affects his D1 eligibility, I don't think it would take him out of the class. It may make a decision to sign after the draft easier for him though.

He's enrolled at his old private school in Mississippi now from what I hear.

The story I hear is that he's severely dyslexic and that's why he didn't make the grades at IMG but i personally find it hard to believe that IMG doesn't have the capabilities to facilitate that.

I'm still hearing he really wants to go to LSU but I can't decide whether that's his dad's wishes or his.

We picked up a pitcher commitment tonight based on Nolan Cain's tweet. Still looking for a name.

ETA: 2020 RHP Michael Fowler from Hewitt-Trussville in Trussville, AL.

Grabbed another 2020 recruit tonight, this one from in state. RHP Marcus Mott from Sam Houston committed to the Tigers.

Will Maurice Hampton come to LSU for football and baseball or is he leaving for the MLB draft?

I like our chances, because of the role football will play in driving up his asking price.

Yeah, fall signing period starts today. I haven't seen any articles up yet and I haven't had time to check twitter though so I've got nothing to contribute on that front.

I just started a rant thread linking this one. Kendall has some preliminary tweets out about commits. LSU and Vandy are the most aggressive teams followed by FL per usual because of how they go after star pitchers.

Hard to get excited about baseball recruiting when the draft still looms in the summer.

In other news, I don’t think what the MLB is about to start doing for high school kids helps college baseball. Then again MLB doesn’t do much to help college baseball as it is.

I don't think it's going to have a negative impact on college baseball. It's an effort by MLB and USA Baseball to standardize the identification process and whittle down the "pay for play" aspect of youth baseball.

They're starting with the top 80 high school prospects for the upcoming draft because it's easiest to start at the top and this only represents an expansion of programs already in place through USA Baseball.

Most of the identification process is still done through college coaches recruiting kids. That's where the names for the prospect lists come from, that's how USA Baseball knows which players to look at, shite that's how MLB scouts know which guys to watch out for at the beginning of a draft eval year, since most orgs don't really work years ahead of a given draft.

But as part of a larger effort to make baseball more accessible to lower income families in America, this is a good start. And it could put pressure on the NCAA to increase scholarship limits. This is only a small piece of what's needed, but it's a start.

Biggs from WM should be signed and delivered. The ceremony was supposed to be at 9 this morning at the fieldhouse.

I've looked a little bit on Twitter to see the pictures of guys signing. I've only seen Thomas Wilhite so far, but I'm sure more will come out throughout the day.

I can't link twitter right now, but I've seen pictures of Doughty and Travinski signing. Wes Toups is expected to sign today as well.
