Doing some portal research, CB that has some P5 offers, USC and West Virginia that is a LA HS young man, with 2 years of eligibility. Coach Kelly has said that looking at the Portal for guys that are from LA is a key evaluation metric, along with others of course. So I think LSU needs CB, here is a talented guy from Louisiana that can come in and play day 1.

I thought Holmes the CB from Wake Forest, who played at Rummel was a guy LSU should look at but it seems he is heading to Texas.

Anyone else know of any Portal guys that played their HS ball in Louisiana that have offers from other P5 schools. Seems to me that should be the plan now before LSU starts back to class in January.

Zy Alexander from Southeastern, as noted in a couple of other threads.

He's the best cornerback in FCS. In the portal for three weeks now. Offers from Miami and USC, among others. Rated a mid-round draft pick in the 2024 draft by at least one service. 6-3 and 185 pounds, nine interceptions in the last two years. Two years of eligibility left.

He has to be coming right. No way he wouldn’t have announced by now.

It would make sense that we'd do radio silence on portal additions at cornerback until after the Ricks announcement.

Alexander said a couple of weeks ago that he was looking to set up a visit at USC, and then he didn't.

Whole bunch of buzz about him in the portal...and then nothing.

He's from Loreauville. He's been on LSU's campus a zillion times. If we offered him and told him to keep it quiet until after we were done recruiting the freshmen, it would explain his going dark about his recruitment.

It's not him but the past few DBs from FCS haven't looked good. At the same time we need DBs so beggars can't be choosers if we're in this situation. Good thing by 2024 we shouldn't have to rely on the portal as much besides depth.

You’re right to be skeptical of FCS players. But this guy is among the best in FCS and (hopefully) we aren’t counting on him to be CB1.

Why, because the two kids from Nicholls that O brought in couldn't play? Or because Colby Richardson, who was a part-time starter at McNeese didn't hold up?

There are more than a dozen FCS alums playing cornerback in the NFL right now. An FCS kid with NFL measurables and All-American productivity shouldn't be discounted for the same reason a kid from a junior college can't be.

Guys who weren't highly rated out of high school turn out to be star players all the time. We just had a walkon beat out a pair of 5-stars at running back for us this past year.

I apologize for not seeing earlier threads about Alexander. Some friends over in the Hammond area have been talking about him. I new he hit the Portal and some top P5 schools have offered (USC, WVU) and now as you note Miami.

Seems to me a no brainer to take. If NFL scouts are already projecting him as an NFL draft pick, no telling how far up the draft board he can go being in LSU's program.

And yes, Denver Harris is a take as well. If S. Banks (who came from Ohio STate) is healthy for next year and cleared to play, you have 3 guys right there that have experience and are good to go.

Bryan Lazare did a break down of LSU's roster that will be in Spring ball 2023, as of now (no more portal guys). It stands as 50. Only 2 CB's, Welch and Banks. Not sure among who LSU signed yesterday can project as CB, Hughes from Las Vegas and maybe Stamps from Rummel? or Toviano, but LSU needs 2 to 3 Portal CB's in my view before we get to spring ball 2-2.5 Months.

He has looked better in his time in Hammond than Alford did, and Alford went high second round in the draft. He's lanky and rangy which gives him a great advantage in matching up with the modern WR's. Once he gets the ball he is a a danger to turn it into a pick 6 every time, think he has around 5 or so, including massive ones against Nicholls and Idaho in back to back weeks this year.

Down side is he has given up a couple throws over the top in one on one coverage. There is a rumor he basically opted out of our 2nd round playoff game against Samford. He missed for an "injury" that didn't bother him until Saturday morning. Would say a lot about his character if it is true. That said in his time in Hammond he has been fantastic so it may really just have been a late injury.
