Looking back at the 2006 Class

We signed 25 players all of which are slated to be entering their fourth year of college ball. Over half of this class is no longer with us; of the 25 signed only 13 remain.
I point this out to show the attrition that happens from year to year. You may have a top 5 class at the time of that signing period but four years later you may barely rank in the top 25.
ETA: Looking at the '07 class there are only five players at the most that are no longer with the team.

Probably the most attrition ever for us that I can remember to this point. Unbelievable.

And Miles has definitely changed the way he recruits since then. No longer are there that many players getting kicked off the team for character problems. Most from the '07 class had significant injuries that ended their careers. So that speaks very strongly of Miles integrity.
Miles has recruited more and more good kids each year and I think that shows we have a bright future ahead full of leadership and ambition.

Meant to say almost, you gotta pick out the smallest things? Of the 25 signed, 12 have moved on and are no longer with us.

Though still early only one player has been kicked off the team that came from the '08 signing class. That person is Greg Shaw

wondering the same thing

shite! You caught me, and no he is not off the team. Supposedly coming around as a damn strong backup in fact.
Which only furthers my argument that Miles has done better each year. That means no one in that '08 class has been lost to attrition.

Phil Loadholt did not sign with LSU - Signed with Oklahoma and is now in the NFL...

Just fricking around. Anyway, do you think that class was so jacked due to Katrina? That was the year guys were sent all around the state and played with different teams. It was also Les's first full year that was riddled with Katrina/Rita. Maybe with all of the confusion ratings/analysis weren't exactly spot on.

That could in fact be an argument. I really don't know but what I do know is that Miles has done a wonderful job recruiting since then.
So some people don't take this thread out of context, the reason I started it is to show the attrition of the past few years and how Miles recruiting has improved significantly.

Scout lists him as signing to LSU, but I believe you're right. I think he decommitted right before signing day and signed with OU.

He never made it to campus is my point... JC transfer that couldn't transfer because of some classes. Went to OU, but never set foot on LSU capmus.

Yea that class i believe changed the way this staff recruits. also i believe many factors played a part. hurricanes/new on the job/ not much direction as far as whom to recruit etc. miles has done much better at only signing kids that will qualify. i wouldnt expect this kind of attrition going forward. i would expect no more the 3-4 players to leave going forward AFTER this year.

It was a different rule for Big 12 than SEC about how some math class transfers.

Bottomline is that every year during the season we have 85 on scholarship. When you start having to fill you roster with walk-ons then attrition has become a problem.
