Seems like Meatball is a hell of a recruiter

Yeah, very good recruiter. Corey Raymond is too. I think the pairing of Meatball as lead and Aranda as Secondary is pretty good. I’ll be interested to see how John DeCoster is used as a recruiter in 2021.

Don’t mean to be a downer, but I never take the listed recruiters seriously.

I say that because of how many times a recruit in interviews, committed or not, will talk about how “coach so and so was great and really sold me on x, y, z”.

Seems it’s almost always a coach not listed as the primary or even secondary recruiter.

I think people forget that your head coach is in contact with everyone. It’s not just that people want to play in Aranda or Brady’s System it’s that they want to play for Coach O.

Unless he ends up with a full time position, I'm pretty sure this is the last year he can be a GA here. I think you're allowed 2 years plus one more if you make significant enough progress towards your degree. This is his third year.

So how is Meatball recruiting from an analyst position?

They get a waiver like they did when our general manager recruited for Pete Jenkins.

ETA: I've seen reports of Bill Johnson out recruiting too. They both probably do it. This is an unusual situation due to Meatball's injury. I also think the DL improved over time after the injury too.

Is it the norm to have your Recruiting Coordinator not be the primary recruiter for any recruits? I guess Coach Rob as the Coordinator doesn't have a specific area to recruit?

So I would assume then he was recruiting for the DL coach we inserted in his field spot...

Decoster is an analyst, not a GA. At least that's how he is listed on LSUsports.net.

Those guys can recruit all they want on campus, and I assume phone calls.

Sounds like they may be grooming DeCoster for a full-time job.

Also Meatball was a full-time coach until his accident, which was mid-August. Many of those players were committed by then.

If I remember correctly, Meatball tore both ACLs working out and Kenechi Udeze got the waiver to physically be on the field.

Meatball was eventually replaced by Bill
Johnson, but Udeze may have been his temporary replacement.

The real question is how does how handle things when Meatball is ready to return, which I assume is right after the season.

I think Johnson has done a great job.

He's basically been the TE coach (at least from run game perspective) since Ensminger became the OC. He's also assists with the OL. He may be listed as an analyst now, because he reached his term limit.
