His profile page is showing he is a 5 star now. Was there a recent update by 247?

Kardell Thomas Profile

Still showing him as a 4 star on the overall player rankings:

He's a composite 5 but in the past few weeks 247 dropped his rating to a 4 star.

I love his attitude, energy, and agility for a big guy! If Moffit can help lose about 30lbs upstairs and gain about 20lbs downstairs he can be a force to be reckoned with.

Didn't they drop him after he had to compete at a camp without pads against players who were wearing pads?

They dropped him to a 4-star because he insist he isn't flipping to Bama.

Yes, and the way the camp drills are set up he was playing tackle. It was a shite show on 247 when they released the rankings and dropped him, Barton Simmons spent all day arguing with various people over it. It prettymuch boils down to the fact that they think he'll eventually be drafted in the second round as an OG so they want the ratings to reflect that, because the NFL draft is their preferred method of evaluating their ratings down the road.

What would have caused him to drop a star? I had heard that he killed it at the opening a week or two ago

Again, his potential for being a guard and mostly likely 2nd rd pick in the draft. That method of evaluation doesnt really make sense to me but it's whatever. We all know he's the best lineman and is gonna wreck havoc at LSU.

No he just competed against other guys who also couldn't wear pads. He had something like 8 reps against Sopsher.

And for the people that say "he's still ranked the top guard", 247 has him as the best Guard prospect but at 65 overall. That makes no sense.

I agree. I think they're getting too cute and trying too hard to predict where players are going to be drafted over actually ranking the best players in the class.

It also sounds like they're de-valuing him because of him being a guard, which I think it misguided. In the last 3 drafts, there have been 6 interior offensive linemen selected in the first round (2018-3, 2017-0, 2016-3), so the NFL clearly doesn't have a problem taking guards and centers in the first round.

If they're not careful, they could get in trouble by focusing too much on NFL draft trends over evaluating the actual players.

Having said all that, if they honestly feel that there are 64 players in the country better than KT, then so be it. Time will tell, but I think they're wrong.

It's a misconception by analysts that OTs have greater value than OGs. A vast majority of QBs slide in the pocket vs moving past the tackles when under pressure. If the pressure comes from the outside he can slide left or right while keeping his eyes and body positioned downfield. Pressure up the middle is more disruptive because it breaks the QB's progressions. It also prevents him from stepping up in the pocket.

Also, with more athletic defensive players, P-5 and NFL teams likely put more emphasis on off guard and between tackle run games.

He is a 5 star no matter what any publication thinks.

Kid is the best fuard in high school and it isnt really close. Kind if like when Cam Robinson and Lael Collins came out. Undeniable.
