Good read. A few things that caught my eye:

First one is for Maea...
quote:

While his father was originally against the trip, he left LSU’s campus singing a different tune.

“Afterward, he said it was worth it and that he liked it,” Emery laughed. “Really, what changed his mind was the academics. He liked the way that they [LSU] handled the educational aspect and the resources that they have. It seems like if you go to LSU, you can’t fail.

quote:

"Coach Mickey was letting me know how important I’d be in the offense if I do commit,” Emery said. “Based on that, if I did commit, I would be really important. Coach Rob is one of the realest coaches I’ve ever met. I can’t lie. He’s letting me know he isn’t going to lie to me and he’ll keep it 100. He let me know I was one of the top elite running backs for the next upcoming seasons.

quote:

"What I was thinking about was that if I do go to LSU, then I could be successful not just in football, but in life,” Emery explained. “The education there, the resources that they have at the school … sometimes you got to take your mind off of football and think about life, too. You’ve got to find a way to make money, so that’s what I was thinking about. LSU … it’s home, so that would be a choice.”

I wonder why his father was against the trip in the first place

It says in the article, but basically didn't want him to take any visits this summer. He thought it was just too early. Basically, trying to slow down, or delay, the recruiting process a bit was my read on it.

It was nothing against LSU at all.

quote:

Of course, Emery’s father wants to press pause on the recruiting process ahead of his son’s junior season for good reason. But he made the exception for LSU and — to his surprise — is glad he did.

“My dad wasn’t really excited about the visit because he didn’t want me to take any visits at the moment,” Emery Jr. told SEC Country. “He just felt like it was too early and he doesn’t want to put that much on me.”

I used to work with his dad. He had mixed feelings about some of the staff. I wouldn't go so far as to say he was "down on LSU" and I certainly didn't get the feeling he was steering anyone away from LSU; but he had solid opinions and is familiar with a lot of programs. He has informed opinions about a lot of places.

This was just over a year ago, and things may have changed; But the staff that he had mixed feelings about is still around. It was evident then that Jr was going to be a total stud so I was listening closely to what he said.

If a recruit says that a school "feels like home/family," there's a very good chance he goes to said school.

Well that's strange since his position coach changed, his recruiting area coach changed, the OC changed, and a year ago Les was HC. So basically all the folks he would be concerned about have now left? Not saying it isn't true but it's just doesn't make sense to me with the little info you gave.

That's what I was thinking. Basically everyone but Coach O and Coach Grimes are gone. So unless he has beef with one of them it sounds a bit stupid.

He wanted his son to take a timeout in the recruiting process to focus on education.

Unless it was a joke and going off of the upvotes I would say that it is indeed. Otherwise he's the joke lol

Education should always be an equal top priority in recruiting. Most elite athletes do not have a significant career in athletics. College ball provides the opportunity to learn skills to play in the real world, which is a longer term issue.
