Of course you would say this, it's a good thing none of us are on the Lsu staff to chime in and tell them to "move on"

I think recruiting has completely changed and no one yet knows how to maneuver it or what the best strategies are just yet.

OL is the hardest position to project, so it's not a horrible idea to take more transfers, especially with instant eligibility now.

That’s supremely disappointing if true. Our Oline is struggling and we have 1 Olineman committed. 2 in the entire class would be a massive mismanagement of the roster imo. Maybe you strike gold like Burrow but I doubt it. More likely than not it’ll be a Jonathan Giles, Darren Evans, Liam Shannon, is that CB from Stanford.

Damien Lewis was a homerun, but I agree we need to start winning more OL recruiting battles.

Gilbert was going to commit to OU

Go home, homer.

re: Jardin Gilbert CB
I like how you left out Damien Lewis who was a transfer and is now starting in the NFL. We have done well with grad transfers. Not all are misses and not all are hits. Similar to HS recruiting. I bet you were melting of Sophsher being a 5 star but he flopped.
Use your brain before you say is "supremely disappointing"

Lewis was a juco recruit, not a transfer.

This makes no fricking sense at all.

What do you mean recruiting has changed and no one knows how to navigate it?

You need 4-5 olineman every class period. Explain to me what’s changed with that

A never ending dead period and an inability to evaluate in person or hold camps.

Have you not been paying attention?

No, you dont. You play the numbers as you will with guys you expect to leave, etc. Just like you dont need the same exact of every position every cycle.

There's some situations where we might need to really look at getting 3 RB in a class. There's other situations where taking 1 is perfectly fine. Same for OL. There's situations where you want to sign 5-6 guys, there's other situations where 3 would be just fine. If we only lose 2 offensive linemen after this season, grabbing 5 guys seems pretty dumb.

re: Jardin Gilbert CB
4 ol would be the sweet spot in this class with what we have coming back IMO. We could get away with 3 but 1 or 2 is just not cutting it. We should not have to depend on some Harvard or sunbelt grad transfer to plug as an immediate starter because we cant manage a roster. OL and DL need to have a starting rotation of Jr's and Seniors every year with at least 2 extra Jr/Sr swing guys on the OL and 2 deep on the DL. In rare circumstances a 5star So may push for the starting role but that is extremely rare at those positions. As it stands now our DL is on track though we have seen attrition at that position however our OL needs to restock.

re: Jardin Gilbert CB

What has changed is the addition of the new instant transfer/eligibility rule which hasn't even completely gone into affect, along with the free year of eligibility players are receiving this year.

Sure, you still need linemen, but they may not be coming from high school.

Just as the graduate transfer rule changed recruiting, this will change it even more substantially.

And no one knows how to navigate it, because it's just now happening and the repercussions have not been felt yet at all the levels.

re: Jardin Gilbert CB

Hard FACT (channelling RickDaddy) people need to realize:

Saying we need 4-5 OL every class AND saying don't recruit any projects are contradictory.

There's not enough 4 and 5 star (how most judge "project"... just not me) OL to go around.

Almost no team not named Bama can meet both those requirements. And they do struggle to do it in some years.

Here's the overarching "strategy": Recruit that 5* OT like you would a 5* RB or QB. If you're going to pay the QB, pay the OT the same. If you are going to get hookers and blow for the RB, do the same for the OT. If you want to improve your OL recruiting, do away with the idea of "skill players" because OT is the right behind QB as far as difficulty to play, inability to evaluate well, and impact on the team.

This is correct.

I would also say that if you're consistently taking 4-5 OL each year, your budget for projects could be higher. You would have more room to redshirt guys, to take guys that need to add weight (I'm not a fan of taking guys that need to drop weight unless they're incredible athletes, like Trai Turner).

re: Jardin Gilbert CB
Ingram’s long term suspension and time away from the team coupled with the controversy lsu is currently facing means his draft stock will likely be very low. Unless he shows out to the point of being a first rounder at the combine then he is likely a day 3 selection
