Well signing 25 a year and having an 85 man roster limit means you need at least 15 kids to leave over a 4 year period. Not counting walk ons that get scholarships also cutting into that number.

^^THIS^^

And that also doesn’t include 5-year ‘program players’ on scholly (w/ RS).

Atkins, Tracy, and Burrow certainly "filled gaps" quite nicely. Wasn't our punter new last year too? Plus we added talent on the offensive line, wider receiver, and all over the defense.

Including redshirts, 5-8 players per year have to leave if you sign 25.

re: Is the 2018 recruiting class reaching disaster level in retrospect?
This is actually good news idiots. It means that LSU sees better future prospects or current prospects already on the team or coming. Coach O was asked when this class signed, what was he going to do about the numbers crunch? His answer was these things work themselves out and that's what we have.

We had to cut people to make room for the new folks. I'll never understand you people who continue to bash this staff or question their actions. Most of their decisions have worked well for LSU. The team seems to be closer and more mature than ever right now, even confident but a calm confidence.

Do we really need these players? That's what you need to ask yourself. Would it matter if it was a 4* or 5* guy we were letting go bc we have a freshman who is already performing better and is projecting better? No it wouldn't but to you apparently so. We have every position secured with more coming.

re: Is the 2018 recruiting class reaching disaster level in retrospect?
My goodness you're truly a moron. This has been happening for decades at LSU but now it's a problem? Holy hell dude who are you?

Just like the disaster that our RB room was going to be soon (which never has come to fruition) I just don't believe you morons spouting off this disaster senerio anymore. Not that I ever did but now it's just obvious that y'all can't stand this HC who is loved by his players and other coaches.

He makes quick decisions that work out more often than not. We've found a way to replace and shore up every position so far and I don't have any reason to believe that if the DL does need some help that he won't be able to find that for 2 or 3 years through other means besides HS recruiting. At this point I can't see how you morons can't see that either.

We needed some LBers, we got them and now on a great pace there. Needed QBs, got them and now on a great pace there. Needed some WRs, got them. Needed some OLman, got them (although it takes time and are still developing). We needed RBs, got the best two in the class IMO (plus we already 3 very good players). We need some pass rushers and we got some decent pass rusher in this class. We need some great corners and look at what we're doing there. We needed kickers and he seemingly fixed that and has it projected in the right direction. Why would DL be any different people? Maybe he sees we have players that he's confident will develop and are developing?

What we're actually missing is that dominant NT or two and that Chassion type pass rusher. We got Little, Ika and Brooks. From what I've been hearing is that Little is truly another Key without the issues or laziness. Everyone can see the talent Ika has and Shelvin is now on pace to lose the weight he needs to play significantly more reps at a higher competitive nature. Hints why you've seen Livingston and Scott leave.

Man you people are so blind by hate y'all can't see 1' in front of you. Take a step back and look at the performances of this team as a whole. Look at how the leaders on this team have emerged and that the QB position is now one of those true leaders who the players will fight their butts off for. Look at how Burrow has motivated Brennen to compete at his highest level possible and now becoming his own version of a vocal and physical leader.

I think the OL will take a huge step up the year. I also don't think it's over for Traore. Whether that be a significant back up for someone inside or out at some point next year I'm not sure but he's a very good talent dispite what some think. I think that's will turn the recruiting around for that position as well. You are right that LSU and Ed O needs to recruit the DL better but to say we're in desperate needs mode is a stretch. I saw some good things from Ferrel and maybe we see the same things from some of the 2018 and 2019 DEs? If not then Ed O will just have to pick up a deep talented HS class with the same type in JUCO and transfer pool. If he can land the type of 2020 class we see possible with a couple of immediate starters from JUCO and or transfer pool, problem is fixed.

Recruiting is a now and later game in this age. We can try to project talent and if that doesn't work key in on some proven talent that might work at LSU but not at Auburn or Florida or Ohio State or Clemson? Who knows? Just stop with all the dumb dumb crap because it sounds more and more maddening.

this thread is specifically about the 2018 recruiting class. i'm sure you were mad at people "bashing" the staff over the class

however, the class hasn't turned out well so far (and was low ranked to begin with)

so we're not allowed to question these specific evals that we were told not to bash/question last year? in what world does that make sense?

We have every position secured

SOMEBODY TELL 247!

Burrow was a graduate transfer, not a recruit.

the only "transfers" that count as recruits are JUCO graduates/transfers. so Mett? he was a QB recruit. Burrow? not a QB recruit

Of those four I was only scratching my head over Provens. Auburn was sitting there telling us that guy is so, so not sec material and we go out of state to nab him. Wasn’t pooka in that class too?!? Wtf?!?

O really needs to fix the DL situation, because I just go off his evaluations. It’s been a nice series of whiffs lately. I was cool with Livingston because of O, but I’m not crazy about signing high school kids over 350 lbs

i don't blame the staff for pooka the same way i didn't blame miles for "spin move" lacy. neither seemed able to become eligible

There are only a few outcomes, and none of them are great.

They come in and have to lose weight before they can contribute, then by the time they are able to play regularly they have knee problems that limit their effectiveness.

And if they do show any sort of talent in the short window they play, they leave early.

If they don't show any talent, they either transfer out, languish on the roster, or get booted for off the field issues. (not unique to guys over 350, but still)

So did anyone ever figure out the cotton issue.

Also with Livingston I felt like everyone saw that coming.
Why even waste the schlorship.

They had other rbs out there over provens

And yet the fact remains that Burrow is 1 of the 25 available scholarships awarded in the Recruiting Class of 2018.

Would it be fair to say there is a highlight on the number of transfers due to having a small senior class AND some key juniors returning instead of going pro?

This post should have ended the thread. Returning players that were eligible for the draft is why LSU is having to process these players.

The OP would be on the Rantard board crying about all of the experienced players who can't wait to get away from LSU and the LSU coach if that were the case. Now he only gets to cry about a few players who have to leave since veterans are returning.

I almost feel bad when I feel so damn good about others misery. ALMOST !!!

Transfers are up across all of NCAA football due to the portal system.
