Before he class limits when O was at ole miss, his modus operandi was to be the first to offer anyone they had interest in. They would take 30 kids if need be. He can’t do that now and needs to learn to manage and prioritize need over want

Well I hate to think about it, but he seems to be flying by the seat of his pants, and really clueless in many regards. The BIGGEST problem truly, is that he thinks he is the smartest person in the room, and is an ego maniac. So far he has been lucky with a lot of screw ups directly related to his ego maniac attitude, and I feel like we are on the edge of the cliff. It’s true. Believe it or dismiss It, but the truth is the truth.

What has Orgeron done to deserve trust or faith?

It appears on paper at least that we should have much better line play on both sides than we have had in about 5 years. We can't ignore the few good things he has done.

Maybe, but I'm not completely sold on just quantity. The quality of these lineman are not all that impressive. I know, I know... Jacob Hester, but that is pretty uncommon and he wasn't a superstar either. None of the lineman have superstar qualities. My concern is the three other areas of need that he struck out on. LSU has needed a QB for years and signed "0". They lost two starting corners and signed "0". They lost nearly 100% of their rushing attack and didn't refill with STAR power at all. He lost to Troy, still can't score against Bama, choked against ND, promoted a past failure for OC, and flopped on the recruiting trail. Doesn't exactly make me feel warm and fuzzy.

You wouldn't consider having only 3 scholarship CB's our biggest depth need?

Bruh, we played half the defensive snaps against Syracuse in a 1-5-5 out of necessity and we started two true freshmen on the offensive line for the first time since WWII out of necessity (we eventually started two). I’d say that made OL and DL pretty fricking strong needs for this class.

Regardless of how you feel about O, we should all feel pretty solid about Raymond. He doesn’t just get CB’s ready for the NFL, he gets them ready to go to the fricking pro-bowl. Greedy is already a star, Kary is as experienced a true sophomore as you could hope for, Kristian Fulton may yet become an elite CB, and Kelvin is the caliber player I expect to do very, very well at DBU. Plus we’ve got more elite safeties than we can put on the field at any one time, LB is now a strength, and our DL will be fully stocked and reloaded.

We’ll be very attractive to CB’s and safeties next cycle, and I think we’ll clean up with that class. All in all, I am not worried about our defense. That side of the ball will be much improved.

But don’t let me stop you from spewing your menses all over tRant and Recruiting Board about how much you hate O.

I'm not as optimistic about the corners as you but I can stilled be swayed before the season starts.
Agree the lines were a big need, likely the biggest along with RB. I also think we did a fine job filing those needs with numbers and talent.
I love Smith and think he will be a 3 year starter. C is not an easy position to evaluate and I think Grimes nailed that one.
Traore was the top JC Tackle in the country and has all the attributes we were looking for. Its a win from a recruiting perspective.
Wire is what all OL coaches look for in a deeper take in an OL class. A raw, high upside kid they can mold. Sure there is some boom or bust there but he's definitely nota bad take.
Lewis is the one I'm neither here nor there about. From a depth perspective, good take. Quality and pure need, not sure. We've got multiple young OGs that have experience(some at OT). Personally don't think Lewis will beat our returning kids. Again good for overall depth but I'd would rather have a 4 year kid in that spot.
Also have to remember that most of the cycle Hines was thought of as an OG commit so the overall numbers are skewed a bit.
As for the DL
Feihoko(sp) I count because he took a spot that theoretically couldve been used in this class. I think he's a stud and will start.
Rosenthal has great size, unknown true potential and the versatility to flip to OL if defense doesn't go well. He's an instate kid with aforementioned huge upside so a very good take to me.
Jenkins is a good kid IMO. Hes a kid that could play anywhere along the line potentially. Don't know why rankings didn't improve for him but I think they missed on him.
Cotton is a beast. I have questions about his size but he's good. There's a role for a kid like him. Reminds me of Josh Downs. Just hope he's more durable.
Hines is a talent. I don't know much about his DL skills but at worst he flips to the OL and he's good there. I don't know if the DL choice was a recruiting pitch to counter Texas or if they really feel hes better there but we will see
Livingston definitely has the size you want on the nose but I'm not that impressed with him as a prospect. Orgeron knows DL talent and he fought for this kid so I willing to let it play out.
The CB depth and need concern really wasn't planned at the beginning but the original plan was to take 4 dB's , 5 if the right 5. Seeing as though the need became quite apparent the better Jackson played I just don't get how the number went down. Colossal screwup there. Baffling.

He may know that he extended too many offers early, but I'm relatively certain he won't be able to apply the lessons he should have learned from it.

So, what people were saying early on about all the three stars had some merit it appears. Seemed early last year that o was a kid in a candy store. He wanted to offer every kid he saw at camp. Not sure what effect this may have had long term, but clearly it appears he goofed by extending so many early offers...and he knows it.
False.

The number of stars isn't just limited to the talent. It has just as much to do with how much of the talent is already developed which is usually limited by the resources available in high schools. It's dependent upon how much exposure the kid has at camps, which could be very little if the kid doesn't have much money or plays multiple sports. Coaches pay very little attention to website rankings and LSU has traditionally done a pretty damn good job of finding talent and developing it. Kids ranked 3-stars are just kids who won't be contributing early in their careers and need time to develop. A lot of those 3-stars people complained about became 4-stars.

I don’t understand how we took too many in the early signing period but still finished 2 short of the 25? If anything we should have took 2 more in the early sihning period if we were going to fall short anyway

Most people who post here about how sorry a class 2018 is haven't the knowledge or experience to evaluate talent and wouldn't know what to look for in a player anyway. They simply watch these rankings and voice their opinions on what someone else says and where they rank. And, if any of these people pay attention to these, 'experts' on these recruiting sites, they will notice these people don't even agree with each other on how good a player is. When I watched video of LSU's commits a few months ago, there was only 2 I didn't feel were good enough for a scholarship to LSU. One of those 2 didn't sign with LSU in the end. Anyone who knows the game of football and understands what an elite talent looks like and watches film on each player in this class will not have any issue with the players LSU signed. There's some who may take a year or two before competing for a starting position, but that doesn't mean they won't be just as good as those who compete for a starting position from day one. It's not about star ratings, it's about accurately judging a kids potential to develop into an elite player at the collegiate level. And that is something LSU has been doing very well for several years. The only position they have been utterly horrible at evaluating has been quarterback. And that is the one position that has caused this team countless victories over the past several seasons.
