LSU is going to be lucky to field 70 players on ship next year. They can take whoever the hell wants to play at this point.

He’s still a take from LSU standpoint, but not from his standpoint. He wants a guaranteed starting spot.

So you would rather use the scholarship this year on someone who likely won’t play over using it on a blue chip recruit one year later?

LSU needs every able body lineman it can get, it’s the one area where LSU always lacks numbers.

We actually don’t lack pure numbers if everyone stays and we sign at least one more in this class. The issue is how many of those guys are ready to play at the SEC level and are being developed properly.

At the rate LSU is going it's going to take several years to even have 80+ ships. They're not going to get every lineman for depth purpose to return next year. More attrition is coming. They need whoever they can get otherwise we'll be fielding walk-ons at some point. All those players who left right before Covid hit has devastated our roster and the transfer portal isn't making it any easier. Expect more attrition to come even on the OL.

I wouldn't be shocked if LSU uses a year of recruiting to evaluate guys who they think they could fill the gaps of 4-5 years on the roster.

If it weren’t for our current roster situation, I would agree with you. I’d like to see LSU get to a point where we have a couple of “rollover” EE slots to give us more flexibility on signing day. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to do that with our current scholarship numbers.

OTOH, taking guys with 1-2 years of eligibility hurts the scholarship numbers in the long run as well.

Yes.

This board will turn into a portal board as we are looking for another lineman and possibly two.

Linebackers are important as well.
