If a player transfers to another team, does the team losing the player get an extra
scholarship? Example Kelvin Joseph

Nope, but makes room on the 85 man roster, just not the yearly 25, unless only signed <25 the year before

Well that’s some bull shite. What’s the reasoning behind it. I mean you lose 2 transfers a year and can only sign 25 then in 4 years you lose 8 players.

Probably so programs can’t be run like the NFL and simply cut bait with 15 players a year in order to sign 40.

Unfortunately transfers are usually needed to keep us under the 85 limit.

No but I was just thinking I wonder what Kelvin Joseph is thinking right now? Jumped ship to avoid a similar suspension to the one Saahdiq Charles served this year, would’ve been a major player in the secondary and now is watching an LSU championship run.

Are you completing the math equation you set up?

100 - 8 = 92

The limit is 85, so you still need to lose 7 more. And that doesn’t even consider if you have any ‘program’ players that RS and stay 5 years total.

There is no need to melt over transfers lost. Especially not when you’re trending the way we are.

Well... bye!

Lose Joseph, we just pull in 5 new studs in last class: Stingley/Flott/Ward/Jones/Hampton (since KJ was a hybrid).

And add Ricks, Toles, Burns, etc. in next class. Don’t wanna be here? Fine. NEXT MAN UP. We will replace you.

You also have worthy walk ons who earn scholarships that won't be counted against the 25, only the 85. Average of a couple a year maybe. So,

On one hand- if you take 25 every year, like we do, you'll be needing to make room every year on the 85 (3-4 yearly). These transfers are a good way to do that; it is better than not renewing scholarships in a way.

On the other hand, if you're signing 25 high-level guys every year, then the NFL will take care of the needed transition all by itself. Like we do.

So if you take a non-grad transfer you lose a spot on 25, spot on 85, have to maintain eligibility.

If you have a transfer out you gain a spot on the 85 in next class.

I think whatever the receiving transfer school loses the giving transfer school should gain, in the same year.

They've made it easier to transfer; school itself can no longer block destinations. So why not balance the ledger for the school losing a player since the NCAA rules and portal has made it easier and thus more commonplace.
