I have heard/read conflicting things about the 85 limit in 2021

Does anyone have any information to clarify this issue?
I have heard that the "extra year guys from 2020" won't count against the 85 limit. Is this like the baseball rule that the "seniors who return" don't count?
Since LSU has so many juniors who leave early, I am struggling to understand the effect of this change. Given that LSU has 10 or 11 open slots on the roster, it seams to me that this has no benefit to LSU as it only impacts seniors (if my understanding is correct).
I also heard any roster "relief" would only be in 2021 even though everyone on the roster in 2020 gets an extra year.
My guess is that most teams will limit who gets to use the extra year. LSU's attrition is high enough to sign 25 new scholarship players a year, so I guess this is not a big deal for the Tigers.

The only thing I've heard is that this year will not count towards eligibility. As far as going forward, I imagine the 85 will change to accommodate the players who gained a year of eligibility then will reduce down gradually over a few year span until it's back to 85.

That's all my opinion though. Who knows what kind of convoluted clusterfrick the NCAA will come up with.

Seniors who were supposed to run out of eligibility but returned for an extra year (at the same school) won't count against the 85, while everyone else will

If those seniors transfer to a new school, they'll count against the 85

They did it for baseball.

Football did not get canceled so they would have to have a reason and allowing immediate eligibility from none playing conferences would be the reason to extend past 85.

If they did, it'll be here: NCAA Media Center

They've only done what the poster above mentioned for Srs. in regards to the 85.

Which is NOT expanding the 85. That extra spot is only good for each specific Sr. and them only and can't be applied to anyone else.

One thing they did by the way, is waive the ACT/SAT testing eligibility for 2021-2020 enrollees. So grade risk recruit pool just got very much smaller. 2.30 gpa still applies.

It's not gonna hurt or help us. We are one of the few. If you take a couple of years down the line into account the extra year may have a few kids that hang around when ordinarily theyd be gone but there's plenty of time to account for those and adjust recruiting numbers accordingly.
I'm trying to quantify how we are ever going to recoup the spots we are under because of the said attrition we have yearly. We are so far under it seems it will take years to get back to 85. We haven't really had to sweat numbers towards the 85 in a few years as it is. We need to find some badass walkons that would be scholarship guys elsewhere or find a loophole

This is the only solution that I can see. The Tigers need to recruit some "preferred" walk-ons, who pay their way for a year and then we can grant them a scholarship.

Yes indeed. After 1 year they would not apply to the 25 a year limit either, only the 85 max.

As I understand it - It has to be two years as a walk on, not one. Did that rule change?
