Plenty of chances for him to commit. You have to remember, CFB is basically a big business. He played games with the staff and they dropped him.

Gotta agree with this! I’m no fan of O, but he did say if you don’t commit by Dec 20, you’d be out of a spot! And for a guy who frankly isn’t a “must get”, Joiner refused to jump on board! The 4 we will get now are people we need that we are really high on!

So he felt slighted because cummunication stopped/slowed down for a few days during early signing day and the bowl prep? Frick that diva.

Exactly. You either get on when the bus pulls in or you get left.

Bullfrickingshit! If you really wanted to go you to LSU you could have signed already or at least kept the lines of communication open. Looks like somebody's feeling were hurt or their offer was withdrawn.

Yeah if he knew he was gonna commit to LSU all along, why not do it on December 20 at the early signing period? No offense to Joiner, but he had his chance to commit and be a part of this but he didn't, so now LSU is going after kids that are higher with just 4 spots left. Devonta Jason did the same. He had his spot secure when he committed to LSU, then decommitted and committed to Kansas. When he did that LSU moved on from him and even if he wanted to come back, he wouldn't have a spot. Oh well.

This is the new reality. Commit early or we have to move on. Because we need two corners and a safety and if Chase wants in, he's WAY too good to pass up. Had he committed early they would have bumped someone. Same with Watkins.

Next year we have Helaire-Edwards, Brosette, Fournette, Ducre (?) Provens, Curry, et al. We need three of them to step up and take the reps. And then ALL IN for three top running backs in 2019.

It’s a numbers game. Of course we wish we could take everybody.

Not just commit, commit and sign... the complete process. A real commitment, signed and faxed.

I'm still shocked by how many are signing in this early period. And not just LSU, other schools as well. This tells me there are many kids who are NOT enjoying the process and damn sure want to get their spot (and free tuition).

I'm not ready to make the leap that many are committing to a school and not coach (most coaching changes happen post-bowl games). But the numbers just might be in support of that too.

ETA: one of the benefits to LSU we've identified with these new rules is that we can focus on a finite list of players for a finite list of spots and stand a chance of closing nicely. This is the way it is now. We'd be stupid to spend resources on someone who we could arguably say spurned us when he had the chance and now simply do not have on our list.

Kid didn't commit bc he was waiting on Bama or Auburn to offer him. He took a chance and I don't feel sorry for him one bit.

I really like the early signing period. Next year I bet more top kids sign in December.

I like it too - it forces both sides to show their cards a little earlier.

It sounds like Joiner could have signed early, but his heart may not have been with LSU - so he likely won't be here. That's probably how it should be.

Things like this will continue to happen with the early signing period and a 25 LOI limit. Only so many spots. Once the bus gets rolling, better be in your seat. Either silently or on paper.
The "which cap will I pick divas" will stop, hopefully!

By the time February rolls around, we don't want commitments. We want signatures.
