I'm not sure getting in a pissing contest with a high school coach that runs one of top baseball programs in the state is a good idea. Barbe continually produces good-great baseball talent and Manieri shouldn't burn that bridge over one kid going pro.
You are probably right, but do you think a college coach who runs one of the top baseball programs in the country is going to worry about any 1 highschool? I'm not disagreeing with you, but PM swings a bigger stick than Barbe.

Agree. LSU and Tulane can live without recruits from one high school. I worry more about the kids. What if some of THEM want to go to LSU, Tulane, etc. They are the ones that suffer here, not LSU/Tulane, all because of disagreements between coaches.

No, obviously PM swings the bigger stick but as a coach, it is never a good policy to get in a pissing contest with a high school coach. It's a small nit group of guys and word travels fast. That stands true regardless of the program but it is definetly intensified when it's one of the states premiere baseball programs for high school. I also understand why Manieri would be pissed but so what. A kid decided to follow his dream with one of the premier MLB franchises ever. It's not like he sold him out for another college or something. I really think this is small potatoes to go sinking a relationship with a program like barbe.

Yeah you should tell Barbe's coach NOT to get into a pissing match with PM and LSU. We are the elite program in the nation over the last decade and he could be screwing with kid's futures when it is NONE of his concern.
LSU sells itself in baseball. If a kid don't want to come, he will FOR SURE be going to a lesser program if he goes to play college.

Checchini signed with the Red Soxs for 1.3M.

Well, for both LSU and Barbe I hope that the relationship is fine, because the kids that went to the Little League Worlds series are like in the 9th/10th grade at Barbe.

Agree....how can you fault the older Cecchini boy for signing a $1.3 million dollar deal with an MLB team? Even if he signed for less than what he told PM. That is life changing money and a chance at every kid's dream, and while PM should be disappointed on not getting a good player, we all should be happy for the kid.
There has to be more to this. We haven't heard both sides. But I agree with the board, these are two elite programs, and they should continue to support each other.

cecchini is the beneficiary of lake charles talent and some kids from porta rico. the fact that he has some former little league players does not warrant any special attention by lsu. look at the lsu roster these kids are as good as any cecchini has ever had at barbe and most coached better than cecchini or his wife.

How many Barbe players have actually played at LSU?

Manieri side: He was lied to (and he was). It's not the first time it's happened to him, nor LSU. But, I imagine that PM drew a line in the sand with these top recruits after losing the 2 pitchers a couple years ago.
Cecchini side: He gave his word that he would only sign for "X" (way above 5th round money) amount of money (giving PM the conclusion he would be at LSU). However, the Red Sox did go well above 5th round money, but a lot less than was told to PM.
I understand PM's frustration, but who can fault a kid for taking 1st round money.
I hope PM can see what a great opportunity it is for Gavin and I hope the Cecchini's can see how discouraging and frustrating it is to lose a prize recruit at the last minute (with no other options available).
Time heals wounds, maybe by next year. Both sides can put it behind them.

Here's a link to Barbe... LINK
If you look at the tabs, you will see scholarships offered and one for players drafted. Just look at the players drafted and you will see a long list of talent that has played there. I'd say LSU's two biggest misses would be Wade Leblanc and Turner Brumby. One played for Bama and the other Tulane.

I beleive Nagle was an LSU verbal committment at one time. He was one of the best to come through there, and I think he was Mr. Baseball in LA two years in a row? Signed with the A's out of high school.
I think the feeling is that there will be more to come out of Barbe in the future, and that one thing we have in common on this board is that we all want the best players to go to LSU!
Barbe has had a handful of others go to the SEC, i.e. LeBlanc and Scott to Bama, Brashear and Mathis to Ole Miss, etc.

I played against Gavin and his brother Garin last year, and Gavin is not nearly as good as his brother. He is LSU caliber for sure but I highly doubt he will make the jump to the MLB right out of highschool.

He is going pro, so it doesn't matter.

Damn, Auburn must be buying Baseball players now too.
That could be the only logical explanation...pass up a scholly to play baseball at LSU?? Insane...

So in recent history, Barbe has had several Draft/D1 prospects and to this point we have had a total of 1(20yrs ago) actually play for LSU. PM should now be worried about not upsetting a highschool who has sent as many players to Bama since 1990 as they did to LSU? Barbe is irrelevant to LSU and PM.

turner brumby sucked at tulane
in fact most of the barbe kids that made it to college never amounted to anything, save for a few kids.

"The minor league season is 142 games, but I have been traveling the country to play since I was 12 years old,” he said. “I played more than 200 games last year. I am not going to have a different attitude towards the game. I love to play and I am going to give all my heart every game. There is a reason they say ‘play ball’ and not ‘work ball.’ It is still a game and I love to play.”
Little does he know it's now a business. Good luck

I just wanted to point out that this was pretty pathetic.
I have nothing to add to this subject because it pertains to Barbe.
