Every thing I read and see from him so far at LSU has me impressed. He seems like he has a plan, executing that plan and relentless on the trail. I think our recruiting is in good hands now at LSU.

He's also friends with Jay Johnson from their time at Nevada.

Didn't know that. That is interesting. I'm really liking our coaching collective at LSU right now.

Agreed. I think he’s a huge compliment to Frank. He seems like the interstate assassin while Frank is more of the LA closer. Love the dynamic there.

Go read about his recruitment of Manti Te'o.

He went to basically every high school game his senior year. He would fly to Hawaii on Thursday or Friday, and then fly directly to wherever Notre Dame's games were on Saturday, and he even missed a few Notre Dame games due to travel issues.

He did land Te'o, and apparently introduced him to his girlfriend.

Yeah that seems like a home run hire. Dude busts his arse on the recruiting trail.

[quote]The question came out of left field, even if it was posed just three days before Thanksgiving.

Of all his many assistant coaches at Notre Dame, which one was Brian Kelly most thankful for as the 2021 regular season wound down?

Kelly, who just seconds earlier had given the “fairy godmother” answer that will live in infamy, paused for several seconds before answering.

“I’m going to go with Brian Polian,” Kelly said back on Nov. 22. “He makes my life the easiest.”

So it was no surprise on Tuesday when reports surfaced that Polian would be following Kelly to LSU. Highly regarded for his role in making Notre Dame’s special teams units among the nation’s best over the past five seasons, Polian follows the retiring Greg McMahon in that same position with the Tigers.

Polian has the "special teams" coaching label, but that's just because that's the easiest thing to coach. He's really a recruiter and personnel guy. He's the recruiting coordinator and roster manager.

Exactly 100% correct! Polian is the regional / national guy while Frank stays mostly at home and may venture out of state to go see a Texas or Florida kid with Louisiana ties.

If you think about it, that’s exactly how he and Miles had all their success. If you add Polian to that mix with St. Louis, Texas and West coast connections, now we’ve got a real machine here at LSU! I love it and so will our fans! I especially like how they’re quickly recruiting the OL knowing that Louisiana probably has enough defensive guys to ramp it up soon after.
