Stayed up some and watched a good bit.

That was some of the best quarterback play that you'll ever see on the high school level.

Mater Dei was actually up 28-5 at one point in the first half but Bosco came back to win 39-34.

DJ Ugs threw for 444 and 5 TDs, Bryce Young also threw 5 TDs but also added 3 picks, and I think a fumble to boot.

DJ might be the most perfect RPO type-style QB in the country. He's the most college ready QB I've seen in a while. He's gonna kill it at Clemson.

Bryce Young is there as well, it'll be hell having to deal with him for a few years.

Here's the highlights from the game LINK

Man, I’d trade Dj for half of this class right now.

I don’t call that a high school game; not with the kids those two schools have.

It makes me thankful that we are starting to build a Cali pipeline.

I watched both of these guys from 8th grade up through UTRhighlights. Young played for the IE ducks. I posted a thread on here about DJ a few years back when I found out that LSU was one of the schools he was looking at. Sucks, but is also great that we might have to deal with both of them for years to come.

I used to love going to the championship games when I lived in California. I remember watching Carson Palmer when he played for Santa Margarita in the CIF Southern Section championship against Tustin when they had Deshaun Foster. It was the #1 running back in the country vs. the #1 quarterback. Palmer threw for over 400 yards in the victory but Foster had over 300 yards rushing. Probably the greatest individual high school football performances I've ever seen in person.

With all due respect he’s not close to where Trevor was c9ming our. DJ needs a year before he’ll be ready.

I was not trying to be literal. Just emphasizing how important it is to have an elite QB. I know that is pretty obvious but we would not be even close to where we are this year without a burrow type QB. I think that, with the run we are potentially about to make, it is not unrealistic to expect us to be competing for the NC every year. That will not happen with project QB's.

How did you think Bryce Young played?

Both of those quarterbacks played really well. Bryce does not bring the fire that DJ does, and if not for several key drops in the second half, his numbers would have been better. He and Mater Dei were lights out in first half.

But I will say he started looking mortal in the second half once Bosco's defense got going and he got hit multiple times. Still made great plays just not dominant like they have been all year.

How could anybody know that for sure? Did you see what true freshman Sam Howell has done at UNC this year? That was with way less talent around him too.

thought he played well, just outgunned by DJ in the second half.

BY had those 3 picks, but 1 was a tipped ball by DL, and the other was the final hail mary to end the game. But, the turnovers do count i guess, so i think he had 4 all told.

Young will start at some point for Bama next year unless Jones lights it up. Even then, I can see Sarkisian giving him a series or 2 to get acclimated, then probably takes over by game 3 or 4.

DJ has the stronger arm by a good margin, but BY has the quicker release.

i'm partial to DJ bc of his size and base when he throws, the ball just explodes out of his hands with accuracy most of the time.

Actually, this game was not the state championship game. It was the Southern Section Division I championship game. The State championship brackets start this weekend.
