I don't care if we land Trocha, but at least we're trying. I was a TJ supporter, but CJJ is really highlighting the failings of the previous staff.

Recruitnik Cavan Walsh is reporting that John Calipari is in Houston tonight watching St. Thomas 2013 big man Tony Trocha.

Trocha (6-10, 210) is a Colombian import. A ton of buzz surrounding this kid right now.

Oregon, Florida, UCLA, Ohio State and Texas also have assistants there.

Kentucky was recruiting him for 2013. I'm sure they still want him and would take him, but he plays the same position as Nerlens Noel. I doubt his handlers would let him go there.

In NCAA Division I, if a student-athlete has participated as an individual or as a team representative in organized sports competition, that kind of participation during each 12-month period after his/her 21st birthday and prior to initial full-time collegiate enrollment will count as one year of varsity competition in that sport. Any participation in organized competition during time spent in the U.S. armed services will be excepted.
In other words, the clock in Div. 1 starts at age 21 if an athlete competes in any organized competition in the sport. There's no age limit for an athlete that has never competed in a sport after turning 21 and prior to enrolling in college.

So, yeah, if he theoretically were 25 and had been competing in recreational leagues, then he would lose eligibility.

We all must be going crazy. This kid over Talbot for Houma, Louisiana. 6'10 265. Trocha couldn't bang his way out of a wet paper bag much less bang in the paint and survive 5 minutes of SEC play.
