And Bama is recruiting others? If they pull Sopsher and maybe one other, when do all of the current commitments think they're going to play?

They'll transfer and Saban will not allow them to go SEC. He will effectively lower his competition that way. He's done it for years.
ETA: From SDS: "The NCAA has approved a massive change to transfer rules as student-athletes will no longer be required to gain permission to contact schools once they decide to leave their current institution, essentially ending the practice of blocking transfers by schools. The policy will not go into effect until Oct. 15."
He can't do it anymore apparently.

They recruit for 5 different spots. Some of these defensive ends will play that buck and field role, some will play 5 tech and some will play nose.
The lighter guys usually play the spot like Khalil Mack and von miller
The other guys will rotate at end
Some will play nose.
7 technically listed as dline, 4 will probably be the only ones with their hands in the dirt

That’s sabans strategy. It was like that here 15 years ago and is still like that today. I remeber in 2003 when we wouldn’t sub in 1 or 2 guys on the line but a fresh set of 4 lineman. It was a whole other crew of guys.
Games are won in the trenches. If O can close with Ika and either Sospher, Young or Handy then we’ll be fine. If not we could easily be back in a situation like 2017 Mississippi State where we had a couple of suspensions, couple of injuries and we were down to 3 Dlineman.
Just can’t keep missing on targets every year.

We arent losing any defensive linemen as of right now.
They might lose their entire starting DL.
They only have 5 DL commits:
Alfano
Eboigbe
Young
Dale
Ingraham
You're mistaking 2 WDE for DLinemen there, they will be linebackers. They want Sopsher and would probably call it on the DL. Ika they are no longer really pursuing. They are worried about losing Young (potentially to us) because he is not signing next week.

Close. 5 guys are true Dlineman at this point and their obviously selling out for Sospher now.
Antonio Alfano - DE
Justin Eboigbe - DE
Byron Young - DE
Braylen Ingram - DE
DJ Dale - NT
Kevin Harris- OLB/DE
King Mwikuta - OLB/DE

It's a possible disaster to be honest..bama is fixing to close with sophser and kayvon t. and we are battling Oregon for ika who is trending towards them..orgeron will never beat saban with the lack of talent we have in the trenches..with this disastrous recruiting of DL we are looking to get destroyed over and over by bama..

no worries O will pick up a couple of Juco guys/grad transfers and a couple of 3 stars by Feb. to match all them bama studs on the Dline. Meatball needs to step up his game your DL coach should be one of your top recruiters.

We are clearly behind Bama on the defensive line. Hopefully we will win some of these battles. The negative fan base and negative local, media for the last 5 or 6 years does not help

Not sure why people are DV you.
LSU was a mess along the DL in 2017.
Had better depth this year, but could lose 1-2 guys and LSU struggled to get pressure with the DL
LSU has 1...1 DL committed, as of now. CEO better close strong with DLineman. If not, LSU is back to 2017. There is a depth and talent issue.

And this is why we have an 8 game losing streak against them It's not QB, it's not running back, it's not linebackers or Defensive backfield. It's none of that. It's because LSU has forgotten what great coaches know. Jimmy Johnson said it Bill Parcels has said it. You build championship teams from the inside out. Not from the outside in. It's all about the offensive and defensive lines. We stopped matching up on the lines after the 21-0 debacle in the Dome. It's not even about having one super star on the line. It's about having studs across the line with depth and studs right behind them.

As has been said, 5 are DL.
Now, lets look at the past 2 seasons recruiting:
2018
Bama: 2 DL
LSU: 5 DL (2 have switched to OL)
2017
Bama: 1
LSU 2
LSU will likely sign at least another DL this cycle.
The difference in NUMBER is not all that stark given a few years of comparison. Now, the quality / productivity is for a different thread.

Couldn’t remember if it was 4 or 5, but figured it was a few.
Thanks for the clarification

THIS AGAIN! WHAT HAPPENED??? This is where championships are built and would explain why we havent got any since 2007. A dline head coach that cant recruit Defensive Lineman

quality of recruits is not even close. end of that part of the discussion.
this 2018 season was a huge step in the right direction. While they were not the 4/5 star guys you may dream about, LSU was able to redshirt most of the dlinemen signed last year. 18/19 yr olds vs 21/22 yr olds is normally not a fair fight.
If anyone needs an example of building a team from the inside out, just look at what the Saints have done for their oline in recent years:
armstead - a late steal in the draft.
Peat - 1st round pick
Unger - traded of all pro. traded a stud for a stud.
warford - free agent signing...paid for quality.
ramcyk (sp?) - 1st round pick.

where did you get these numbers from? They’re wrong
ETA: not including the pass rushing OLBs
Bama 2018 haul:
Eyabi Anoma - 5*
Stephon Wynn - 4*
Cameron Latu - 4*
Tevita Musika - 3*
LSU 2018 Dline haul:
Davin Cotton 4*
Nelson Jenkins 3*
Dominic Livingston 3*
Bama 2017 Haul:
LaBryan Ray - 5*
Isiah Buggs - 4*
Phidarian Mathis - 4*
Jarez Parks - 4*
LSU 2017 Haul:
Tyler Shelvin - 4*
Neil Farrel - 3*
Justin Thomas- 4*
So total haul in the past 2 classes:
Bama:
2 - 5*
5 - 4*
1 - 3*
LSU:
2 - 4*
4- 3*
You can get away with lighter numbers if all of your guys hit and are studs but we’re in a dangerous spot right now if we strike out with our 19 targets.
I’m worried about everyone pointing to 2020. Last year we said “O is just building depth, we lead for a bunch of studs in 2019 with Sospher, Young, Moore, Pickering and Handy”
Eventually we have to get some of the studs on campus or re-evaluate how we’re recruiting.

Sopsher will be it, and he'll make 6. We only have 9 DL on scholarship and we'll be losing 3-4 of them to graduation/draft. Our old DL coach was a shite recruiter and fricked up the recruitment of 2 in-state 4* DL in the 2018 class, and we had to take a flyer on a no-name JUCO DT over the summer just to field a 3-deep.

The machine isn’t stopping anytime soon. Going to make Georgia’s class last year barely be remembered

Which is exactly what that shitty coach Bear Bryant did except he just buried them on the depth chart completely and most never transferred out.
