quote:

He first appears inside Room 208 of Olmsted Academy North on a Thursday in mid-March, sitting at the corner of a table his legs can't fit under.

Kiyaunta Goodwin is fully engaged in art class. But unlike his eighth-grade classmates, he doesn't draw on a sheet of paper. Because of the size and strength of his unusually large hands, the 14-year-old uses poster board because it allows him more room to operate.

As Goodwin shifts his 6'7", 370-pound body, the 10 a.m. bell rings. Wearing a bright purple collared shirt and tan khakis, he walks toward the door, holding the black case that houses his bass clarinet in his left hand. His size 18 shoes and long strides reach the doorway in a matter of steps. He's a foot taller and 200 pounds heavier than anyone in the room.

My son is 6'2" and weighs 215 as a 14 year old and is the 2nd biggest in his class. The biggest is 6'4'' 225 and they get strange looks because of their size. To weigh 370 at 14 I cant imagine.

he's certainly not morbidly obese. He's overweight, but he's 6-7.

That’s a BMI greater than 40, so yea it’s morbid obesity. You could argue that someone could be muscular enough that the scale doesn’t fit perfectly, but at 14yo I seriously doubt that’s the case. Kid needs to cut weight regardless

Did you even look at pictures of the kid? Wtf

New NCAA rules on recruiting means he wouldn’t be offered until junior year anyway..

Its said he could grow to 7'10". At what point do you literally grow out of the sport?

I think anything over 6’9 you start getting out of playing football territory. The lineman just aren’t athletic enough at 6’10 plus

If he grows to be 7’10” and 370 pounds, he could switch sports and be the filthiest center ever in the NBA

That’s definitely overweight. That’s pretty close to morbidly obese.

Well he is in 8th grade so whoever signs him would be a total guess at this point.

You lose leverage because of your inability to get pad level low so your height becomes a weakness. Strong 6'3" DTs that weigh 320 will get underneath you and push you back.

And to add the weight conversation, a kid that size needs to start watching what he eats and make sure he does TONS of cardio and stretching. He should lose some fat, gain muscle and flexibility, and maintain that weight as he gets taller. That should be the goal.

Agreed. He needs to stay around that 300 mark for the time being IMO. Get stronger, build muscle and then he can get back into the 320-330ish.

It’s meant for the average person, not competitive athletes. That’s why I said if someone is muscular enough that it doesn’t fit perfectly, but he’s beyond the point of saying “oh it’s just muscle.”

He’s only 14. Plenty of time to focus on cardio/endurance and cutting down on his weight.

He needs to watch his eating now, as in today.
